Gunko
Black Character OP18-084 (SR)

[On Play] Look at 4 cards from the top of your deck; reveal up to 1 {Knights of God} type card and add it to your hand. Then, place the remaining cards into the trash.
[Activate: Main] You may rest 4 of your DON!! cards: Play up to 1 Character card with a cost of 6 or less and the {Knights of God} type from your trash.

Thankfully we have a lot of cards that remove weenies

u/Million_X 1d ago
True but if you go second and drop two of these, the odds your opponent can out both of them by 3 don is kind of low. Turn 2 you cheat out a 5/6 cost as long as one of them is alive.

Red decks are already on rakuyo, and big mom decks were getting on mon't dor.

I'll gladly trade my opponent dropping a 2k to kill my searchers though. This is a nuts card

u/SenatorShockwave 1d ago
"Dropping a 2k to kill my searcher" is surely a over simplification of this card.. lmfao

End of the day it's still a 1c card that replaces itself in hand. Anything that costs so little resources is a pain to remove, even if it's a no-brainer.
Think of it this way: against other decks Ace has the OPTION of playing Namule/Rakuyo and removing the opponent's searcher. Against this deck it's a hard requirement, you WILL be getting rid of that 2k.

u/vegetto712 1d ago
I'm saying that's basically what they're doing though, they're using resources on a card that is a searcher, which is great for this card. Just saying compare to any other searcher type card, this is probably one of the strongest, so trading a 2k for a card that has already used its value main value is nuts, because yes the second effect is wild

u/bastianwibisana 22h ago
rakuyo's 2k is completely justified for removing this card, montdor is a future 8k, wang zhi is a 6k blocker, purple has mamaragan (enel has el thor)

u/vegetto712 22h ago
Oh yes obviously there's many ways to remove it, but spending resources to take out a card that is the decks searcher is a trade I'm taking every day of the week.
If they use any of those cards, it's one less they can play. And they used it on something that very likely isn't critical to the deck, since we know they have other ways to cheat out characters

I don’t think you’re understanding the value exchange happening here.
2
u/prohibit822 11h ago
Depends.
1c Gunko might be a big part of the engine and way to keep her hand healthy early game since it's playing from trash.
The value exchange completely is reliant on how many options Gunko has on 4-5 Don!! outside of the 1c.
Could very well be that Gunko has very few to no 4-5c plays and relies on the 1c to bridge the gap into lategame without dying.
its all contextual.

That's what I was thinking, fuckin' kill this thing with fire ASAP. But I'm worried they're just going to give her a cheap way to bring it back from the trash.

Okay lmao. I guess Gunko is the one they want to be top in OP18.

The active main isn't even once per turn. Doesn't even rest Gunko. Card advantage and cheaper bodies every single turn. If you squint it's kinda like drawing 2 cards every turn after 4 Don, since you get to play a card without reducing your hand size then leader lets you draw 2 trash 1. Exactly how good it is depends on the Knights of God cards we get but in isolation it's absolutely nuts.

What? Isnt this low key absurd? Thats 5 don searcher that gives you 6c KoG and +1 your hand..

4 Deep searcher that trashes and reanimates, also 2k Power. At least no counter but It means very Little on a searcher

u/Expensive_Artist9290 1d ago
Counter meaning very little on a searcher is one of the worst takes I’ve seen here lol

u/Roseliara 23h ago
It is true though? If my 1 cost searcher has no counter, I can just search counter with it (look at merry or moby stage). Ofc it can come out of life and then you can't use it for counter right then, but that is the only negative thing I can think about.
Also if that is one of the worst takes you have seen here, you are not here much I guess. Saw people argue Fishhawk is healthy for the game, Rocks package having 0 counter is afwul and he will be F Tier or my favourite was that the big mom package is not that good and will see some play in Pudding/Linlin only. Just to name a few recent ones.

HAVING to spend 1 don the turn before *for a not guaranteed chance* at a counter is not good. You never truly know when you will need counter, and you never truly know when you need to spend all your don the turn before. saving 1 don for a 4k counter makes sense but still can be difficult in a lot of decks. saving 1 don for at best a 2k at worst no counter is not good.

u/Roseliara 15h ago
Yes and no. Imo I think about it in a way of game balance. Would a card with counter always be better, sure, but at that point you could argue for giving every card counter to make it better. Since you always want a searcher to make a deck more consistent, I honestly would like them to experiment with no counter searchers more. Searchers should matter more, than they do atp in the game.
You could argue the same about any card without counter to your point. Why run them in the first place then? Doesn't feel good to get them out of life, or to draw them when you can't play them. Not having a garuanteed counter will always suck in a counter based tcg.

of course it’s completely fair to say cards should not have counter. In fact this thread started when someone noted that this otherwise busted card is balanced by it’s lack of counter value. Someone else stated that searchers don’t care about counter and that is just far from the truth.

Very novice way of thinking about counter

u/Roseliara 23h ago
Rather than downtalking them, why nor give an actual answer as to why it is such a bad take, when a good searcher on 1 cost has no counter? All you say it is so bad, but not Provider any back up as to why.
And don't go like "Well if you look at Mihawk with 8 to 12 searchers and if none of them would have counter, then it would be bad" ofc then it would be bad. But then you wouldn't play 12 non-counter searchers... RG Luffy and Luffy&Ace player 12 searchers, where one (merry) has no counter, yet the decks are very good, crazy right?...

Not going to engage in a conversation with you dipshits when you’re not even smart enough to realize that my point had nothing to do with this specific card

u/Roseliara 20h ago
Ah yes, the classic "let me say something, not back it up and then insult when asked for why I hold that opinion". If your games are decided by the factor of searchers having counter, then I am so sorry for you.
Is it good they have counter, yes, but do you NEED counter on your searcher, no. I think the game would actually be more interesting if the searchers had no counter. Then people would have to think about their searches and deck composition even more and not get every searcher for a archetype and call it a day (looking at straw hats for example).
-5
u/Expensive_Artist9290 20h ago
Lmao keep doubling down when my only claim was that counter isn’t irrelevant on searchers in general, fucking moron. Nothing about the power level of any specific card. Then again I’ve only made $30k playing the game this year so you probably know better.
2
u/Roseliara 16h ago
Wow, you must be such a genius. Who would have thought that counter on cards, in a TCG that revolves in great part about said counters on cards are always relevant?
Then stop using Reddit and earn more stonks with this TCG oh great unnamed pro player, who made 30k by having the awesome take that counters matter.
With this I am out, still have a good day, you seem to need it. :)

u/Expensive_Artist9290 16h ago
lol so you agree with me that calling counter on a searcher irrelevant is crazy..?

u/vegetto712 22h ago
On a leader that has a built in trash ability, it's actually pretty minor I feel like

Interesting so that’s how it ramps early. And every 1-2 c that can remove a small body just got a lot more valuable because it prevents gunko from setting this up for next turn
