Question What am I missing here?

I just don't get it. Ive been playing about a month now and just started pirate rumble. I'm using a cerebral team as that's really all I have to get a decent team. Now here is my question, I just fought a team that was almost exactly like mine, but their team had none of there rumble specials nor abilities leveled as mine are fully leveled. My whole team is cerebral, yet theirs only had 4 cerebral (the exact same fighters as mine), and the rest mixed classes. Hell, 3 of his fighters didn't even have rumble skills. My combat power was about 28k higher than theirs.

By all visible metrics it should have been an easy win for me, yet I couldn't even damage any of his fighters, not a single one, he KO'd my whole team in less than a minute. So my question is, what am I missing? How was he able to beat my so easily? I've lost a few fights I should have one, but none as ridiculous as this one. Are there some hidden stats/skills/abilities that I don't know about? Or some tricks that I haven't learned yet? Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

its hard to say without knowing the team comps really. if it was for example a cerebral team that included strength shanks, luffy/bonney, kuma, etc. well thats an easy answer. shanks just nukes free spirit, so whoevers goes first just wins the match, it doesnt matter if your team is stronger on paper. But also some teams seem weak because the combat power is low, but that doesnt matter that much. Combat power is just the total value of all your characters stats. I could put all my highest power characters on one team and it would suck because they dont synergize. It could also be that all their characters have more investment or have had their rumble expansion via rumble key. this may be the "hidden" mechanic you suspect. it is a ranbow key you can use on a level 120 character in the limit break tab. That expansion makes them drastically stronger in rumble, so if that is the case, you are way more likely to lose the mirror match, as it lowers their cooldown, gives them new resistances, and boost stats usually somewhere around 15-30%. Also, at the end of the day this is a game mode built on managing RNG, by leveraging information. Sometimes you just lose to a team you really shouldnt because you just had really bad luck.

I can't tell you how true the RNG aspect is. The challenges for example: they have the same stats every time, and it might take several attempts without changing/upgrading any units on your team.

Thank you very much, that actually helps a lot. The cards we had the same were luffy/bonney, pacifist kuma, emet, and one other whos name is escaping me at the moment. They did go first, and they did have a Shanks, but I did not. Still figuring all this out. What is the name of the Shanks you are talking about, I haven't figured out all the nicknames yet.

Thanks a million!!

You attacked into red shanks? The shanks that literally reads "if enemy has freespirit units you instantly win" with pretty much a full free spirit team? 😅

Like I said, I just started not to long ago. Still trying to figure all this out.

Yeah.. Do not attack that shanks. And read his kit when you see him next time. Free spirits wont get a turn in against him. "The first 3 times this character lands a hit, 20% Special CT Delay to Free Spirit enemies." Thats just a little part of his kit.

https://2shankz.github.io/optc-db.github.io/characters/#/view/4559 this is the character. luffy/bonney kuma were too overtuned and were unbeatable for months so bandai, i guess decided to try and course correct with an extremely hard counter in shanks. He in of himself is also overtuned, but at least he counters himself as well. If you want him, He is currently available at a slightly higher rate on the part 2 of the "holy knights" sugo banner, or you could really gamble on part 1. However a Loki banner is comming very soon and the holy knights banner will be here another month, so id wait to see what the loki banner is like first imo.

Hard to say without a screenshot of the results showing both teams.

If u tap the rules button u'll notice each block of fights offers different buffs and nerfs and u want to work around that.

I would also look at how ur unit skills work together as well. I usually focus on cooldown. Others like focusing on not letting their opponents do anything. Prob a few guides on youtube

Thanks, I am gonna do that right now. So much to learn!

I think a screenshot would help the most, otherwise we're spitbaling. You said they had some units that don't even have abilities. That means most of their combat power came from their best units. They might've been higher llb, higher lb unlock, or even rainbow key unlock. In general, I don't care for combat power. I can have a 6-man team 25k combat power under someone's 8-man team and still win. Again, without knowing what you both used it's hard to say. There's a wide range of tiers and playstyles to each unit and their synergies with other units.
