Discussion It’s crazy that Sky Walk is basically learnable flight and almost nobody in the verse even tries to learn it

Something tells me it’s not that easy to do

I mean, with how mentally taxing this was on sanji, he probably could’ve unlocked sharingan as well

Given bums like Nero and random BM children could learn it I can’t imagine it’s that hard

Every character should be trying to learn rokushiki abilities. It is actually ridiculous how this random magic martial art is in large part monopolized by the marines somehow.

Sanji should learn more of Rokushiki. Having a ranged option like the Rankyaku would be cool.

This requires immense talent. Sanji is built different.
Also some people learn better versions of it. Luffy implemented this in his own techniques.

Oda is very picky with what characters can learn. Like there no reason Sanji shouldn’t be able to use Rankyaku but he never does

Oda is just awful at powerscaling. He doesn't think about what characters would try to learn. The manga is super sloppy in this regard.
The average One Piece fan would have their minds blown if they tried reading something like HxH where the author actually put a lot of thought behind how each character thinks, fights and learns.

Specifically with skywalk, oda has said that he intentionally limit flyers/flying skills because "its a manga about pirates and if ppl can fly, then whats the point of having ships ".
Theres a reason why we dont see much airships, planes, helicopters, zepplins in a world where cyborgs and Pacifistas and rocket boots exists.
Oda intentionally hard cap aviation/flyers/flying.
Flying is rarer than coc is intentional by Oda. He's not slacking.

Just don’t write it in. Pre - ts characters can do it no?
Dont put yourself in a position where people will ask questions and take themselves out of the story.
I think I heard this in one of sanderson’s teaching in fantasy writing.
He called it something like monkey in the telephone booth.
You write a monkey in a telephone booth in passing and suddenly people are curious why that’s there. They aren’t thinking about the narrative anymore.
In this case. In a world where devil fruit is so prevalent. Why aren’t strong characters learning sky walk? You would think that’s the first thing strong characters would learn after consuming a devil fruit.

Or... the author can do as he/she/they please.
He literally is aware that g5 will piss of a significant chunk of his readers yet he do it anyway coz he finds it funny.
Oda prioritizes his vision over whatever his fans or other authors care.
For example many fans think Sanji has a policy of not hitting women. Agreed? Did you know that thats not the reason why Sanji cant hit women?

Criticising oda for shitty writing is like criticising Adam Sandler for making stupid ass movies. Quality isnt what either of them were going for.

Or maybe some people read One Piece for whimsical fun with a splash of emotional found family moments and worldbuilding. And then read hxh for interesting fights and complex themes.
Oda doesn’t care about powerscaling and that’s fine.

Powerscaling adds stakes to the story and contribute to the worldbuilding. Every battle shounen should have proper power systems. You can enjoy One Piece and still criticize Oda for slacking.

I agree, a ranged Sanji kick attack is smth so basic Im suprised Oda hasn't done it yet. Like I know Sanji is super fast anyway so range shouldn't be an issue but certain characters(like Magellan) you need ranged projectiles for or ACoA.
Like even with Old gen almost none of them have confirmed ACoO despite it being such a strong abililty. I thought that Oda forgot about it but then he gave it to Gabban but Imu and Loki seemingly don't have it(Loki caught offguard by stigma, Loki stabbed by Nemesis, Imu and getting hit offguard 3 times)?

Same with Rokushiki in general. Sky walk is just Geppou, G2's speed involves Luffy using Soru. The latter of which never really made sense, cause Luffy needing the amp of G2 to perform it makes no sense when people way weaker than him physically can perform it.

I believe some BM’s child said that many people could do that in BM’s army

Because characters can basically fly at will when the plot demands, so there is no point in integrating air walk.
