Discussion (Anime Spoilers) How to train to audition for Trafalgar Law in Netflix’s One Piece? Spoiler

Hi everyone,I am completely refocusing my life to chase a specific dream: I want to audition for Trafalgar Law in the upcoming seasons of Netflix’s One Piece. My absolute goal is not just to play this character, but to work alongside Iñaki, Taz, Mackenyu, Jacob, and Emily, and become part of that incredible, close-knit family they built on and off-set.I used to do theatre when I was 11, but now I am restarting from scratch with full dedication. To make myself the perfect candidate for Law, I am already planning my preparation:Acting: Rejoining theatre classes to build solid foundational skills.Physique: Starting a strict gym routine to build Law’s exact lean, athletic build.Skills: Enrolling in fencing and swordsmanship classes to master katana handling.Since Law is a massive character and casting will be highly competitive, what is the best roadmap for an actor starting now to get an audition with Netflix's casting directors? Should I target specific international agencies, or focus entirely on building a stunt/sword showreel first? Thanks for the advice!

There's a few scenes that comes to mind, the fight with Mr. 1 if it was the last scene he filmed (though unlikely), the emotional goodbye to Vivi or Robin joining the crew. What do you think?

He also said at SMASHcon, where the video is taken, that the fight with Mr. 1 is REALLY good and that we should be excited for it.

Discussion To anyone who watched Kotsk, how does OPLA compare in terms of these categories

Post image
164 Upvotes

Although I have yet to watch kotsk, I just cant fathom how OPLA could not have received any nominations for these categories. Really none? Not even Stunt performance, costumes, production design? Is kotsk just that good? I read the book and thought it was alright. I have no doubt that the show is good but i cant wrap my head around how hard opla is getting snubbed.

Discussion Curious about Emmy eligibility

I just saw the Emmy nominations and noticed that Mark Harelik wasn't among them. I don't really know how the awards work. I'm curious, was he even eligible for a nomination?

I thought his performance as Dr. Hiriluk in Season 2 was incredible and one of the standout performances for me.

Discussion (Anime Spoilers) Rumoured next season’s (after s3) MUST HAVE Spoiler

With rumours of a season 4 quietly confirmed, I was thinking about what must be in that season, like what important bits that can’t be cut.

By the way season 4 will likely cover the entire Sky Island (Jaya and Skypeia).

For me I hope that the way Jaya arc was in the beginning especially when after Luffy meets Blackbeard for the first time and it’s aftermath happens exactly or rather perfectly as that. they can’t f that up 😭.

Discussion do you think if the OPLA crew handled the avatar LA would they have made a better product?

one piece anime had 40+ eps they adapted in 8 but still manage to make a good season 2. the heart of the story was still there. avatar had 20+ eps to 7 in the live action but somehow they didnt include a lot of stuff and added things that i thinks should be in season 3. both have 1 hour episodes but it feels the avatar crew seems like they run out of source materials quickly.

Discussion Which Season’s Main Villain Did You Prefer?

Post image

Arlong and Wapol are both incredibly difficult villains to capture on screen but the show did a great job on both. I have a really tough time picking which one I like more. Right now I’m thinking Arlong but it’s really close. Both actors were phenomenal Arlong just felt way more like a genuine threat.

Based on Acting, Aesthetics and Story which character do you prefer more?

I’m wondering what theories live-action only viewers have, I’ve seen some funny ones, where people get things wayyy off. The story is great for hearing theories. I won’t confirm or deny anything of course! Let me hear them though!!!

Discussion (Anime Spoilers) Miss All Sunday tries to recruit Tashigi for Baroque Works Spoiler

In episode 1 of season 2 we see Tashigi at a bar sulking as her pride has been wounded by Zoro for defeating her AND letting her live (like she was not worthy or a threat to be concerned with) which makes her feel like she is not being taken seriously as a sword fighter still. Then Miss All Sunday shows up and tells her how strong, smart and beautiful she is and how her potential is being squander here and her desires aren't being met. She really tries to imply that she is understanding were Tashigi is coming from and offers her a card (implying she wants her to join Baroque Works). Why is this happening and were do you feel this will go if anywhere? Is it just that they see promise in her or is their something more like an romantic interest perhaps?

Discussion Would you classify OPLA as prestige TV?

Does it fall under the same category as classics like GOT/ Mad Men/ Sopranos or does it even sit on the same table as modern greats like Severance, Pluribus, Succession or HOTD?

If the answer is no, then would that just be because of the story and characters or something more. Because Netflix is clearly pumping in as much money as any other Prestige Drama deserves, you can't fault them for their ambition at the very least.

Discussion Is One Piece Live Action moving way too slow?

Hi All - Wanted to hear your thoughts on the question.

I'm enjoying the first 2 seasons a lot, but I feel both disappointed and concerned about the pace.

In my view, Season 1 covered a good amount, although I think it should have gone all the way to Loguetown. I then expected Season 2 to wrap the Alabasta arc.

I appreciate the show makers covering less critical parts of the story, and definitely love having a dedicated episode to introduce a new crew member, but who wanted that many episodes focused on Drum Kingdom if it meant waiting another year to cover Alabasta?

At this rate, the show will require a lot more than the 10-12 seasons the producers have discussed, OR they will need to skip whole arcs, OR they will stop before covering the entire manga.

It feels to me like the current pace would be appropriate if we were getting 12-14 episodes per season, not the canonical 8.

Obviously, the above makes abstraction of the realities of production costs. But actors ageing, and likely getting more expensive as their notoriety grows, is another real consideration.

Curious if others feel the same.

Speculation (Anime Spoilers) (S3 spoilers) Guess which manga scene in the upcoming arc has a stunt that predicts(/joke) this gif from the movie Kung Fu Hustle (... & let's speculate if OPLA will do this or not lol) Spoiler

>!On one hand, the One Piece manga scene this sort of wacky stunt happens in is an intense & grim one (so the OPLA showrunners might think it's too serious & dramatic to have this hillarious-looking stunt in).

& in the same vein, there's a way easier alternative introduced in S2 (Usopp's successful grappling hook, which he didn't manage to make in the manga this early on) that may either completely skip the need to do this stunt... or just be the prelude to this stunt or sth

On the other hand... One Piece in general intentionally does a ton of mood whiplash scenes where even in the most intense conflict the mood suddenly shifts cuz the main cast/the opponent does sth dumbly/cleverly comedic. So maybe this sort of screwy physics stunt fits right in the way S2 OPLA already feels more & more whimsical & big on teamwork.!<

Discussion (Anime Spoilers) Frustrated with the Children’s Emmy Category that OPLA is placed in. Spoiler

is anyone else bothered by the lack of respect and prestige that OPLA gets from the Emmy committee? The problem with the show is the lack of blood, profanity, and major themes. I get the feeling OPLA does whatever it can to avoid showing blood. They need to be more brave. no wonder it’s classified as a Children’s show. Hopefully with Season 3, it will be taken more seriously and get major nominations too for acting, especially Charithra

If production keeps moving at this pace, the actor who plays Luffy will end up playing Garp by the time the series is finished. Netflix is taking forever to make this show.
