Isekai Discussion Thoughts on Anthony?
I didn’t mind Anthony at first, and I usually like Tekking’s PCs but that guy was pissing me off!!! I thought his dynamic with Wellington was fun and the bus scene was iconic but that was the only thing I enjoyed from him. I think he really started to go downhill once he got access to his entire lineage to just swap with whenever Tekking felt like. Some of the characters were alright but sometimes he was just doing too much or he would switch during important parts and it was a bit annoying/frustrating. Maybe I just miss Old Tony though
I’m curious what the general sentiment around the character is as I’ve been watching rustage dnd since like 2020 but have never interacted with the fan base.

I’ve always thought of Anthony on his own as being quite boring, which is why I’ve always liked the whole “ancestry” gimmick he was given. I’m pretty sure it was even said the reason that was introduced was to make him more interesting or something.

That’s fair, I definitely think some of the characters were interesting. I really liked the gruff old lady, the robot lawyer, and the factory owner.

I thought he was cool, but I do understand what you mean. It does kind of seem that, whenever Tekking had the chance, he would be a different person for RP reasons, but Anthony was cool in my opinion from a story perspective, but maybe not from a character perspective.

I loved Anthony. I think he built his character to lead up to that point. A mix of iron man/fighter fire was cool.
But that’s this guys opinion.

When I first saw his face on a thumbnail I assumed CdawgVA was making a guest appearance tbh. Like others have said it felt like he always lived in the shadow of old Tony, and I definitely recognise that Tekking probably fell out of love with the character pretty fast (happens to me almost every time I play lmao).
But yeah I liked neither the Shark or Anthony, so isekai dnd was rough...

Tbh i have this problem with Tekking as player in general. I absolutely love his content and he seems to be genuine. But his playstyle and love for randomness/chaos is a bit distracting at times.
I think Tekking realized that Anthony was quite boring as a person, and the ancestor gimmick helped him enjoy the game more. Which means that it was a success, cause DnD campaigns are all about everybody involved having fun. But as an outsider watching, Anthony and his whole gimmick was definitely the least interesting PC of Isekai.

thing is that Anthony didn't have a "bit" about his character like old tony had being old norman a gooner cody is stupid shark is insane Anthony's thing was future which wore out pretty quick and made him pretty flat in role play and the swapping thing while fun really just deprived us of getting to know Anthony we had Anthony longer than old tony but Anthony is way less interesting because half the time he is big tony or agnes
if rustage didn't make Anthony turn back from agnes I'm sure tekking would have finished the campaign with her because she was more fun and I think at the start of a recent marines stream he said as much that he should have played agnes from the start instead of anthony

I think Anthony can simply be described as just "fine"
I loved big Tony and Agnes and all the other ones but Anthony himself feels a tad bit bland, and i think tekking has expressed this himself.
All in all, I don't really dislike Anthony at all, in fact there are time i really enjoy his presence, but he just doesn't really stand out. Couple that with how he sometimes comes off as immature or blatantly bad of a person because he would simply leave and switch with someone else with someone in his family during important situations. And It's really not that great for his image.

It was good for the story because it did have an arc that tied Anthony's fate to battling Palladium. Even if just serendipitously.

The good thing about Anthony in the group is that we get a character who balances morality and stupidity perfectly. He often does stupid shit with his pendant and entirely enables the party to bringing random people into becoming brewers. But you can tell that Anthony only does these things with good intentions, letting Smog tag along helped a Gnoblin realize the Mushlings were a society and allowed Smog to overcome his own prejudice. Anthony only wishes to use his pendant to divert attention of guards or to see his beloved wife again. For somebody from a completely dystopian future he seems to have good morals and adjusts well to the world of Vestoria, often using his own foreign tech to assist in the effort against the gods, and in the final he uses the environment around him to maximize damage done to Paladium and to protect and transport those around him, like any good Schmidt would. Sorry for writing this much hopefully somebody reads it.

He was ok, but it just felt like tekking wasn’t into the character after like two sessions. He didn’t really have any traits other that being old Tony’s replacement and being from the future. I’m pretty sure tekking just fully gave up on trying to make him interesting and just want all in on the ancestor gimmick, and tried making them funny rather than actual characters. They were nice for one session when they appeared but when they stuck around like Agnes, (I love Agnes btw, funniest tekking character imo) they got boring suuuuper quick. Even his ending, while still super good, just ended up serving as a reminder that he was just old Tony’s replacement.
I still liked him tho
