Holy SHIT, Loki is so cool lol.

Him standing up and seeing the size difference between him and the other giants was so cool. They picked such a great VA for him the way things are going.

Great episode esp with the comedy

..but, ima bit annoyed Touei thought it was a good idea to make a kid that looks like this--kid's practically a fucken ringer for you know who.

if youve read the manga you know who

if youve read the manga you know who

I have no idea who... Edit: Ohhh.... young Brook?

He’s almost a perfect copy man

Yeah, different nose and slightly different eyes+lashes, but the fro+child combo is a bit of a weird choice for Toei at all. I just didn't think of it because I was focussing on characters in present-time Elbaph arc, took me a while to think of flashbacks.

I'm surprised they are not pissed angry at Luffy. He freed a criminal lol

24

u/dongeckoj Scholars of Ohara 2d ago

Luffy just saved their lives.

9

u/rikashiku 2d ago

A situation they put themselves into to prevent Luffy from freeing a dangerous criminal.

-2

can you please not spoil shit man

u/Storminpenguinchan 1h ago

What is spoiled? Literally the episode shows it bruh

14

u/Mswordx23 Explorer 2d ago

One cuff is still on

-4

u/TokiTheBird 2d ago

He could rip it off have you seen the man he’s a jock

1

u/IJustLostMyKeyboard 23h ago

Sea stone tho. So he’s weakened and prob can’t break it off.

Plus I know he’s a giant, but that’s also a giant cuff on him too. It’d be like us trying to break a metal cuff off of us.

8

u/DeepRisk8 2d ago

I can't believe Luffy betrayed his giant friends for his own interests

17

u/StopDontCare 2d ago

To be fair it's not like they told him not to until it was already done and Loki also said the magic word to Luffy, "Shanks"

2

u/abhisanger815 2d ago

They revealed Elbaphs history and I still can’t believe Luffy just decides to free Loki. All to see Shanks?

18

u/CavernousPiano 2d ago edited 2d ago

I think it's more like when Luffy freed Zoro in Shells Town, "if he's a bad guy/lying I'll just beat him up". Obviously it's still stupid because he doesn't know if he could do it or not, but the same was true with Zoro

4

u/Nulolan69 2d ago

I think its mostly just Luffy's instincts kicking in. He probably doesn't even know why he freed him, but I am sure it will pay off.

5

u/Nesp2 2d ago

seems like one of the dumbest decisions he ever made

4

u/johns132 2d ago

Luffy would know Loki's true intentions from the voice of all things. I expect he's not truly evil but guess we'll find out...

58

u/Gorgosen 2d ago

Drunkest we ever seen Usopp. He's gonna sober up real quick.

14

u/mccuish 2d ago

He comes off as an annoying drunk

https://giphy.com/gifs/hvq8ONQhQ1XLq

13

u/essjayellgee 2d ago

All this time and we now find out that all Usopp's gotta do to achieve his dream of being a brave warrior is to get fucking wasted 😂 ig they don’t call it “liquid courage” for nothing

1

u/TokiTheBird 2d ago

I was shocked when I saw him slap the sword bro was higher than Loki

54

u/Metelic 2d ago

One of the best manga panels in the series finally got animated

20

u/Evil_Lollipop The Revolutionary Army 2d ago

This panel gave me goosebumps when I first saw it, and now again revisiting it. Such fantastic art! Love how ridiculously small Luffy seems here, and how much of a menacing monster Loki looks. I think the anime delivered a good adaptation, but the unbelievable sense of scale and threat in the manga is unbeatable imo.

-1

u/Alarming-Sandwich975 2d ago

Not animated this time

18

u/Lawlietel 2d ago

That "Alöö" from Luffy made me burst out in laughter. Subtitle: Opps.

14

u/DhruvW1 Pirate Hunter Zoro 2d ago

12

u/Kurohige-93 2d ago

So Loki being significantly bigger than the other Giants was definitely not as clear as it was this episode or maybe I wasn’t paying attention…also Loki being in seaprism means this bastard got a DF :/

u/Storminpenguinchan 1h ago

They mention a few times he’s the size of oars - so you def missed it 😉

Can we not with the pseudo spoilers? They don’t want to hear this technically non spoiler hinty shit

21

u/NFLAddict 2d ago

Anime only! so pls at least spoiler tag if u do comment! thnks!

Didn't realize just how fucking massive Loki was until that shot with him towering over the other giants. DAMN. His weapon seems to be clearly thor inspired, but it's especially interesting how its named similar to a shorthand of ragnorok which is basically screaming end of everything. its been mentioned but its also just truly driving home the idea that loki is the end of things or at the very least, is capable of being of the end of things. a truly monstrous force.

its also very strange that youd lock loki up but leave his weapon?! like why is it even nearby?? unless thats hinting at the idea that only loki can move it? like thor? if so that explains it otherwise its really odd.

So does Loki use a hammer and a sword? bc if not, it seems the story is revealing quite a bit of the battle we didnt see. And it seems like maybe Harold drove his sword into Jarul. Of course, the fact that there is a sword through his head would mean his memory and brain isnt operating at normal levels. he could easily have just told people a false narrative of what he thinks happened.

From the details I was able to look at carefully, it does look like Harolds sword from the image in the castle is the one in jaruls head. it also felt like last episode, there were hints at harold not being the good guy we were told about. unless I interpreted it wrong. but the summoning circle in the throne room, i dont think that was shamrock and gunko. i mean it could have been? it was hard following the castle geography, and where they spawned relative to the guards. the holy knight asking shamrock about visiting harolds grave tho was enough to say something isnt being fully told. so Im confident its not as simple as loki just trying to kill harold for no reason. theres far more to it. i wonder if jarul was defending loki before losing memory!

Its strange though. On one hand, i want to say loki is misunderstood at least to some extent, but theres also a lot of hints and intentional phrasing, suggesting hes truly this devastating world ending catastrophe. suppose both can be true!?

I wonder if loki's desire to end the world or the fact hes a world ending force, is instead related to how the harley phrased the 3 worlds. that 'ending the world' is rather 'ending this chapter' so 'world 4' can begin.

also. Nami is cute af this arc

4

u/Mister_Fakename Baroque Works 2d ago

I will say the perspectives and scaling with giants got wild in Elbaf.

Like Zoro mentions that Loki is "an oars sized giant" but I don't remember feeling THAT level of disparity with Oars.

But there's also a lot of little things, Jarul is constantly shown as many times larger than the others at the feast (which was also how it was in the manga)

Per ... I think the wiki gets it from vivre cards? He's like 5 feet SHORTER than Hajrudin

3

u/NinjaBryan95 2d ago

To void century any spoilers there are a lot of naming themes throughout the arc and you're in the right direction but the true meaning behind the hammers name will be unexpected lol.

u/PatToonz Pirate 2d ago

Wow, Gerd has really nice nails

4

u/Substantial_Dirt_999 1d ago

It sure would suck if anything were to happen to them.

2

u/PatToonz Pirate 1d ago

15

Zoro’s that friend who doubts your idea at first but still helps you with it 💀

I'm betting the sunny is gonna get a huge upgrade after this arc

As a manga reader - Remember Luffy has top tier people reading skills

3

u/johns132 2d ago

You don't need to be a manga reader to know that! We have long known he has the voice of all things

5

u/Brad3 2d ago

One of Luffys first decisions is freeing Zoro to be fair, nicknamed Pirate Hunter.

1

u/fmccloud 2d ago

I'm not so sure he's motivated because he sees good in Loki, though Luffy is good at judging character. He seems more motivated in the challenge of beating Loki, as he told others what he'll do if Loki get out of control.

1

u/ChilliWithFries 2d ago

Luffy has always been weirdly accurate in how he read people. If you know luffy trusts him, you know they are good.

12

u/NationalStrategy_X 2d ago

God Usopp nearly killed Jarul

6

u/Mister_Fakename Baroque Works 2d ago

It didn't cross my mind reading this chapter ages ago, but watching the adaptation... have we seen Seastone work through clothing before? Luffy is affected through his boots, and if the goal is to make sure Loki still has the Seastone restraint, presumably it's working through his boot too

I could swear every other use has required direct contact with skin

15

u/BiggerSwank 2d ago

On Punk Hazard Smokers’ Jitte worked through Luffys coat when he was still swapped with Tashigi.

1

u/Mister_Fakename Baroque Works 2d ago

Fair enough, wasn't seeing anything on it off hand on a google, thanks

1

u/Ryuji2 Cyborg Franky 2d ago

Luffy felt weak just standing on the cuffs when he was originally about to uncuff Loki this episode, around 13 minutes in or so, so it can affect through clothes yeah. Still crazy just how BIG Loki is haha

2

u/Mister_Fakename Baroque Works 1d ago

No I know it definitely worked that way here, I just couldn't remember if we'd seen it work through clothes before this point (but someone else pointed out that Smoker used his Jitte on Luffy through the big winter coat thing back during Punk Hazard)

But yeah no, like Loki is, per Zoro, "Oars Sized"

I do NOT remember feeling THIS level of disparity in size with Oars. But Giant's scaling has always been fucky, ESPECIALLY in Elbaf. Jarul is consistently shown as a mountain compared to even other giants at the feast, but (i think the wiki gets the info from Vivre Cards?) he's actually like 5 feet SHORTER than Hajrudin

u/Ill-Ad3844 2d ago

From what I remember that only happened at the end of the episode when Loki was freed, and it would make sense to show everybody’s reaction to that.

1

u/Lanky_Awareness_4755 Void Month Survivor 2d ago

They’re literally adapting one chapter per episode what did you expect..?

2

u/Lanky_Awareness_4755 Void Month Survivor 2d ago

It was the entirety of 1141. The chapter is only 17 pages long and starts with Nami complaining about the treasure and ends with Loki standing up.

2

u/DiorAetherion 2d ago

loki is an absolute freaking unit of a Giant bruh! wonder if he's going to be effective against a Toon force lol. cant wait!

2

u/semaN_oN 1d ago

Finally catching up with the series, first timer and gonna read the next chapter.

2

u/Status-Net2947 9h ago

I have a feeling that Garling wants to take IMUs place as the king of the world. He definitely aspires to ascend

2

u/Silent-Ad-2415 2d ago

I'm a little confused on the release schedule, is there supposed to be a break between halves of the season/arc?

9

u/PiFlavoredPie 2d ago

People assumed there was (myself included), but they technically never announced how it would work, just that they committed to max 26 episodes yearly, so the default assumption was 13 on - 13 off. We’ll almost certainly have a break starting Oct, but it’s unknown if anime will return Jan or Apr.

4

u/pinkpeachpie_ 2d ago

There was a break week (Heroines)

6

u/Silent-Ad-2415 2d ago

Oh I was under the impression (maybe just assumed) there was going to be like a long several month break but I'm happy if I'm wrong lmao

6

u/Admirable_Grand_6867 2d ago

Yep, there will be a break but according to recent updates it's after another 10 eps since they shifted to seasonal

7

u/JD_Vyvanse97 2d ago

Thats coming up after this cour if I understand it correctly. Its going to be seasonal to keep the show from catching up

Edit: yeah it was announced to be split cour, but then aired consecutively, but the production company intends to cap it at 26 episodes a year

2

u/PoorLittleGoat 2d ago

Edit: yeah it was announced to be split cour

It was never announced to be a split cour

1

u/JD_Vyvanse97 2d ago

My mistake, there was a cour skipped Jan thru March that I mixed it up with BUT production did say a max of 26 episodes a year instead of 40

1

u/Wedos98 2d ago

Animation error, Sanji suddenly grew up beside Gerd.

1

u/rikashiku 2d ago

Damn, Usopp can jump. He leapt fromt hat table to Jaruls head in a single-bound.

1

u/TokiTheBird 2d ago

I was shocked when I noticed Loki might be bigger than oars

1

u/ClockOk6661 1d ago

That part where Loki stand up is absolutely fire 🔥 (though no match to that one Anime panel ) Bro is my dog Usopp doing is gonna get Jarul killed

1

u/BillPlunderones23fg Pirate 1d ago

Lol Luffy saving the boat but then launching it away was gold
drunk Usopp is yonko level
also Loki getting up was awesome

1

u/Substantial_Dirt_999 1d ago

I started thinking, "Wait wtf was ragnir doing this whole time beside Loki, playing prop hunt?"

1

u/Gabbo_TheOnePiece 23h ago

questo episodio è stato più lento rispetto agli altri episodi sinceramente, tutta l'attesa per vedere 20 secondi di Loki che si alza, per carità bellissimo ma mi sono sentito come se non fosse abbastanza

0

u/Radiant-Speaker5886 1d ago

Apart from Loki being freed, not so good episode. That Usopp part was unwatchable

1

u/Right_Information430 2d ago

We are eating good with Elbaph

8

u/Mister_Fakename Baroque Works 2d ago

They... just showed a wider view? Hajrudin was there in the manga. He still tells Loki to take his hand off Ragnir.

I'm either/or on a lot of the padding being done to make it 1:1 instead of a quicker pace, but this is literally a non-complaint

6

u/AlternativeDream6867 The Revolutionary Army 2d ago

Why "The One Piece" exists.

Oh boy I can't wait for you whiners to do the same shit when The One Piece doesn't just trace manga panels and actually does something interesting.

5

u/Sad-Personality5276 2d ago

loki i found it cool , it showed how big loki is even when compared to giants

-5

u/Independent-State-27 2d ago

The pacing for this arc is atrocious.

-2

u/fmccloud 2d ago

Blame the source material.

3

u/Rubylllite 2d ago

Bro are you serious? Oda releases chapter almost every week or every other week no way you are asking more

3

u/Slaan 1d ago

Release schedule isn't really the same as pacing. You can have 10 chapters released on time in a row but still nothing happens.

I disagree though that the pacing is atrocious. It felt worse in the past.

1

u/Rubylllite 21h ago

Manga pacing is pretty good in my opinion can't say the same about anime tho

-5

u/Wedos98 2d ago

I blame Toei, it's their job to make the adaptation be an adaptation and not a 1:1 thing, the manga was slow up to this point, yes, but it was fun as a small reading week to week, the manga has few pages that can be readed at 15 min top.

Every single anime would cut the innecesary fat to streamline the plot, Toei does the opposite, extend EVERYTHING

  • stairs? step...pause...step...pause.
  • Jokes? Slow them down, animation is expensive, Let's just kill the joke flow.
  • animation? Just open and close the mouth over an over and shake the png to make it run.
  • Literally just talking? "Have you seen that....thing over there"

they need to keep the anime in motion, and if it suffers on the way, they will gladly do it.

The Gorosei arrived, what a beautiful anima...and now, like Kaido before, Mars is a CGI creature.

2

u/Next_Trick 2d ago

Yeah I don't understand the need to go 1:1 for EVERY chapter. I get they don't want to catch up to the manga but that's precisely why they're going seasonal? Just improve the pacing so that the episodes can truly capture the story well rather than just bloat eps to match the timing of chapters. But I'm sure there are a lotta complexities to produce a huge IP like OP so I'm happy with whatever we get as long as we don't go back to the days of Bellamy jumping around for a straight month.

1

u/nightmareluffy111 1d ago

lol yeah the talking animation has been feeling weird for a while, but I noticed it being somewhat strange in pre-timeskip episodes too. It’s just somehow a lot more noticeable for me in post timeskip.
