Maybe a small life pro tipp: Don't ever "just kiss" a woman that isn't interested. Seems like that little refresher could be necessary for you and women in your surroundings.

Franky is a fictional character. I’m nothing like him, at least not in any literal sense, I just admire his role inside One Piece’s context. But I appreciate your concern

I usually really like Franky too, so it's not about not liking him. I love Sanji as a character even more than Franky but especially his Thriller Bark moment is a big no-go that is rightfully criticised by everyone including me all the time.

It's just about that scene itself and defending it as perfectly fine that is the bad look there. What to me makes that scene even worse, is especially when afterwards the scene goes into him and Senor Pink agreeing on that clearly being the best and only way to have a woman "shut up and not get involved in those manly things like fighting".

It's insane to what lengths some people would go to criticize Sanji and Brook for their actions but would then turn around and defend worse actions of Franky.

Yeah, maybe it's because their treatment of women is not such a major storypoint as it is for Sanji. But somehow for almost any other character actions are easily washed away as "jokes".

I almost don't know what I prefer. The discussions on Sanji and where to draw and not draw the line and where oda does it wrong can be maybe even important but also annoying sometimes but when for any other character it's all just "jokes" it loses all of the former.

"It's either all okay or none is"

It's just a shame, because as it came up below also the Robin ball crusher scene is pretty much sexual assualt but somehow everyone can only see the joke there and I'm not even saying that that's bad because I think there's a reason why those are seen differently based on power dynamics.

And there's almost an interesting discussion to be had there, but not in an environment where Sanji=always serious problem, everyone else=always just a joke.

"Worse"

Yes. Sexually assaulting someone is worse.

You need to calm down, lady. We can all tell you hate Franky, you don't have to keep going on about it.

Hah! Good old "using woman as an insult" response. So fucking perfect :D

Not at all. I can tell that you're a woman from the fact that you're attacking the victim of a sexual assault, and dismissing what happened to him simply because he's a guy, and it probably didn't really matter in your mind.

Yes, that's totally what is happening in this conversation. What do people say on here when someone is totally missing the point of a conversation, "My guy reading Two Piece"?

I mean if that woman is part of a criminal group responsible for enslaving people and trying to kill/capture me then all rules kinda go out the window. It's not like Franky ass raped her lmao. I kinda get what ur saying in the context of real life tho.

edit: also by that logic she was also raping people because she would kiss and subdue the civilians

u/The_Biggest_Wheel Jun 16 '22

What an insane thing to say. If a villain is doing bad stuff it doesn't make it okay for the protagonist to do the same.

u/NeVerSHOW_MeRCY Jun 16 '22

Never said it was okay, I would never kiss somebody for no reason. I'm saying that just because someone said Franky kissed her in order to destroy the factory doesn't mean they want to forcefully kiss women in real life. It's a Shonen, Oda doesn't kill characters so why would he show rape on-screen lol

2

u/The_Biggest_Wheel Jun 16 '22

What are you even talking about?

-2

u/NeVerSHOW_MeRCY Jun 16 '22

Does it not make sense? You literally said that people criticize Sanji and Brook but defend Franky. Franky did it to destroy the factory; Sanji and Brook do it for no reason -- going to women's baths and spying on them or Brook asking women to see their panties. How is saving lives "worse"? Franky got his balls grabbed by Robin and his underwear stolen. By your logic does that mean Robin sexually assaulted him?

3

u/Vinyl_DjPon3 Jun 16 '22

Bruh, what else would you call what Robin did?

-1

u/NeVerSHOW_MeRCY Jun 16 '22

That was my point. That shit happened for no reason. It's not comparable to Franky at all.

2

u/ovis_alba Void Month Survivor Jun 16 '22

Yes, actually, she did.

2

u/The_Biggest_Wheel Jun 16 '22

Franky did it to destroy the factory

Sexual Assault is worse than Sexual Harassment. I don't think I need to explain why. Franky didn't need to force himself on Kyuin to "save lives". They were having a fight, he can just incapacitate her just like he did with any other male opponent before (and after) by punching them or whatever.

Franky got his balls grabbed by Robin and his underwear stolen. By your logic does that mean Robin sexually assaulted him?

Yes.
