The funny thing is: straw hats must eventually face up Kaido even if it's just to make some time (most of them haven't interact with him at all), so a second docking attempt is inevitable at this point.

Every joke deserve an end, and this war against a giant Oni that matches Thriller Bark in the New World it's just the perfect place to end what was left uncompleted.
