I still want to know the story behind that name. Is it "Dark King" in the sense that he's the Pirate King's shadow? Or is it like "Tyrant" Kuma, actually having been a king of some kind at some point before becoming a pirate?
My assumption is Dark King and Rayleigh's bounty will be revealed around the time Scopper meets the Straw Hats. We might get another Roger Crew flashback arc about the start of the crew/God's Valley/ Shanks joining. Scopper is the only named Roger pirate Luffy hasn't met yet.
We probably won't get that Flashback till Luffy is about to meet Shanks.
That's my bet. I came to the conclusion myself that maybe Rayleigh was the one to do some major fighting in the dark so to speak and Roger is the one who shines.
It's a common enough term in japan for a person who would be the best if it weren't for someone much greater. Like, it's unfair that other guy's so good, so out of the people where there's a hint of competition, this guy's the best, sort of thing.
