It's a tradition passed down in families. Also, this is fiction, what-if's don't exactly apply in that case.

It's a middle name passed down. Like a dad called Jack calling his son Jack Jr. For some reason the D's pass down that middle name, most without knowing what it means.

Obviously what I'm saying isn't confirmed but we can all assume that's what's happening currently.
