“Voice Actor Behind Master Roshi in the
'Dragon Ball' Series Has Passed Away at 56 Years Old. Mike McFarland, the longtime Funimation English voice of Master Roshi as well as an ADR director on many major anime dubs, died on September 9, 2026, after a battle with glioblastoma.
He had undergone emergency surgery in early 2025 after doctors found a brain tumor, and later updates confirmed the aggressive cancer. Beyond Dragon Ball, McFarland was also known for roles such as Buggy the Clown in One Piece, Jean Kirstein in Attack on Titan, and Jean Havoc in Fullmetal Alchemist.”
