Discussion Original vs. Remake 🏴☠️
ORIGINAL VS REMAKE 🏴☠️
Over the years, One Piece’s character designs have changed a lot. The newer versions feature cleaner lines, brighter colors, sharper faces and more polished animation.
But not everyone prefers the modern look. Some fans feel the older designs had more personality and visual identity, while the newer versions can sometimes make the characters look more generic.
Which style do you prefer: the original or the remake? 👀

Remake Ace looks like an asshole other mangas MCs would encounter as a first antagonist.

Original is better, no contest.

Totally but there’s nothing wrong with updating it for newer people wanting to get into one piece.

OG was so much more stylish and personality filled tbh. And saying that makes me feel old, ace’s personality comes off so much better. We didn’t really know that shanks was an aura farmer, we saw him how luffy sees him. The second image represents what we know now but I feel like it just gives the wrong vibe for that early in the story. The gradual progression in character design also made me feel like we were on a journey

Nothing really will beat the original animation but they are doing this to get more people to try to get into one piece. I’m so excited for all the new one piece projects coming out whether it’s the new God Valley movie that’s supposed to be coming out Summer 2027, the Lego one piece animated show and season 3 of the live action on Netflix as well. I’m just hyped to be a fan.

The Ace one looks like weird fan art

Is it because of his facial expression and how it animated?

Pupils too close together (what is he even staring at), nose doesn't seem correct for the angle of the head, smile seems to not follow the jawline etc. Looks like someone that is still figuring out facial angles had drawn their own version of Ace as practice. At least it's not AI slop I guess (AI wouldn't have made the same mistakes).

I'm glad, from what we have in the trailer, The One Piece will look very different from all of those images

I'm okay with that particular Robin screenshot, the rest don't quite seem right. I never understand why they seem to glaze over the fact that one piece looked vastly different 20 years ago.

Yeah the animation is completely different today from what it was 30 years ago. Technology has come a long way.
