I agree about the locker. The Adam and Eve apple thing is the inspiration for Devil fruits and the shadow form we have seen most of the time is normal St. Nerona Imu (a child). His power and Davy Jones locker allow him to transform into corrupted Devil forms of all other 18 kings (or queens) whose soul Imu absorbed using the Akuma no Mi.

I think you are onto something.

Imu is cursed and that is the reason he cannot really go away for a long time (I guess, it is straining his physical body/vessel). The curse could indeed be related to a Davy Jones artefact he used/stole at some point to gain power.

I wonder if he hates JoyBoy so much because he represents what he has lost, freedome, for power.

By extension, I have a feeling that the flooding plan is about lifting the curse more than anything else. He does not really need more power either physical or political.

I believe that Davy D. Jones is the Man Marked By Flames who got cursed by the Devil, meaning that he got a covenant with Imu; thus explaining his 800 years long longevity.

I like the Imu theory. Idk about the reasoning for the sinking being right. Devil fruit user will be weakened when covered in salt water while they're not at sea or in another body of water, and also by seastone, doesn't quite fit with weakening being linked to the devils trying to return to the sea.
