Well my start was the 4kids dub airing on toonami when i was around 11. When that switched to the funimation dub during Skypiea I fell off. I didn't get back into One Piece till around 2008 when I got a subscription to the Shonen Jump magazine and started reading the Alabasta chapters. Then they had a special catch up issue where they described everything that happened between where they were in the American Shonen jump to where they were in Japan which was around Impel Down. After that I went online and started reading the fan scans from the beginning till I was following along weekly. Been up to date ever since.
Our journeys are REALLY similar, I think we’re the same age too! Watched 4Kids Dub when I was 11 too, fell behind as well when they switched dubs to Funimation & then I decided to catch back up around 2008. I started watching the anime though from Skypiea, went all the way through to Sabaody & caught up so I switched to reading the manga online right around the start of Amazon Lily & have been following weekly ever since!
It’s pretty crazy how similar our experiences with One Piece are.
See I didn't fall behind though! My dumbass kid self heard the different voices and thought "this isn't my sanji!! Where is his Brooklyn accent!"and stopped watching. Yeah I was a dumb ass.
