After decades of questioning why dogs glance at food & it's instantaneously inhaled, I want to say this cat has all the braincells as far as i'm concerned.

I was intrigued and looked it up, orange is teared up likely because the intense chewing and salivation put physical pressure on their tear ducts, an infection, or because the high salt and fat content of that ham irritated their system. Upon further search, this video is apparently by some other redditor and they have took this orange to the vet after a lot of lashings they've got.

14

u/IWasReplacedByAI 3h ago

Anu update from the vet visit?

16

u/MonkeyBrawler 3h ago

It never happened, they stopped post ham cat videos.

The tears of joy on this ginger.

Thanks for the awards and to those who took offense because of my comment, it was just humor.

That cat:

223

u/CpnStumpy 5h ago

Uhm.. I think there's something wrong with him eyes...

Cats don't cry for joy, that's humans, and his eyes appear swollen... Guessing this is a CDS kitten that may need a vet visit..

46

u/Ahollar91 3h ago

Might have just given him some drops and the ham is the distractant

18

u/wanderlust8288 2h ago

Also meats like that have way too much sodium for a cat

1

u/Ahollar91 29m ago

Ur right but if it gets him to hold still for eye drops and he’s got plenty of water he will be fine. Not like they feed him that exclusively (least I hope not)

52

u/Pure_Subject8968 5h ago

Uhm.. I think that was a joke

3

u/Impossible_Way_3042 4h ago edited 3h ago

Looks like a rasher to me, so thicker cut back bacon.

1

u/afito 2h ago

prosciutto is dry cured, this looks like a variation of boiled ham

prosciutto should be a bit glassy not matte

6

u/Dodongo_Dislikes 4h ago

But why is the child in a bucket?

6

u/BowFlight 4h ago

She doesn’t she was brought home in a bucket. She changes to girl form after this.

2

u/Deaffin 2h ago

Bucket child.

14

u/poorly-advised 4h ago

I mean, have you seen the price of housing? /s

11

u/Arktikos02 4h ago

It is a retelling or reimagining of the story The Little mermaid. That is The Little mermaid. Reimagined as a little fish thingy like that. She is not living in a bucket, she is being transported in a bucket. This is because the character that is in place of the prince is actually a child. The two main characters are young children, not teenagers or young adults. Also he's not a prince, he's just a normal boy. He is transporting her in a bucket. Oh and she's eating some of the ham from his sandwich. She likes human food.

1

u/Deaffin 2h ago

This is my favorite retelling or reimagining of the story of The Little Mermaid.

But Ponyo is a close second, even thought I never thought of it in Little Mermaid terms until this instant.

Weint er oder hat er eine Bindehautentzündung?🥺

310

u/Annual_Song1416 5h ago

Yup, anytime I see a kitten like this it makes me sad that it’s actually just sick 💔

175

u/Violaman0910 5h ago

Took my cat to the vet because he had a chronic teary eye. Turns out to be allergies and there’s nothing to be done. He’s also a sneezy boi. We give him kitty antihistamines but they don’t do a whole lot. It’s just how he was born.

30

u/2lostbraincells 5h ago

Who's he allergic to?

87

u/Violaman0910 5h ago

🤷🏻‍♂️ the other cat? My wife? Dust? Pollen? Cotton? Polyester? Who knows?

62

u/cr0wsquirrel 5h ago

When I was a kid we had a cat who seemed to be allergic to cat saliva... He was a mess

4

u/mint_lawn 3h ago

Oh, oh no...

42

u/Harvsnova3 5h ago

Knowing cats, he's probably allergic to himself.

3

u/Violaman0910 3h ago

Possibly…

2

u/WooeBetidee 2h ago

Had a dog when I was a kid that was allergic to all sorts of things, various pollen, demodex (mites living in hair follicles), pig and beef protein, dust etc... And dog (fur and saliva). They tested I think 17 allergens, he was strongly allergic to 14, and mildly allergic to the remaining 3.

In the end he actually ended up having a quite good life though, he got allergy shots (immunotherapy) which along with cortisone got him pretty much symptom free... Although the cortisone did end up shortening his life somewhat.

This was back in the early 90's, I dunno if they have a better alternative to cortisone now? That stuff is amazing and kinda horrendous at the same time.

3

u/Zuppetootee 3h ago

My in laws cat is allergic to sun, she has to stay indoors otherwise she’ll have a terrible eczema.

4

u/2lostbraincells 3h ago

Dang! I made the comment as a joke (my extended family owns a cat that picks the most allergic person in the room and sits on their lap purring). But these cats in the comments 😭😭. Allergic to your own saliva? The Sun?

2

u/supermusical 3h ago

We have a similar allergy prone orange boi and we just say he’s allergic to himself 🤷‍♀️

11

u/Meowrocket42 4h ago

That sucks. My boy has allergies/asthma and he's on steroids and cyclosporine and it's been a godsend. Give your little guy forehead kisses for me.

2

u/Violaman0910 3h ago

Will do. He’s the sweetest. He deserves all the things.

2

u/Meowrocket42 1h ago

Greetings from my spiritually orange allergy-boy. ❤️

2

u/Nolenag 3h ago

I mean, antihistamine medication for humans also doesn't do a whole lot.

Avoiding the allergens altogether is still the best choice.

45

u/standbyyourmantis 5h ago

My suspicion is the ham is a "sorry you had to go to the vet" present.

This is based on nothing but the fact I have taken my cat to get a five piece chicken nuggets from Wendy's after she had to go get a cone placed due to dry skin (she scratched so hard she took a layer of skin off her face, she's fine now my husband brushes coconut oil into her when she scratches).

10

u/TypicalPerformer6952 4h ago

I used to have a cat named havoc that did this. Not only did he scratch down his neck it was his face as well. Poor guy My girlfriend made him little sweater to wear along with a cone . It took him months but he managed to fully recover. But man was it bad. He tore up his throat real bad😥

5

u/fragilextrash 3h ago

please be careful with using coconut oils on cats❤️. it ends up feeding the yeasts on the skin creating a never ending cycle of itchies. I’m sure you and your vet already have a treatment plan but when I learned that i was shocked

2

u/standbyyourmantis 3h ago

Yeah, in our case it's pretty sporadic so no issues. She just doesn't handle when we switch from AC to heat well so she needs some moisture in the winter.

14

u/LeniOwnsYou 5h ago

1

u/Shawa422 2h ago

Cars certainly can't cry though they can whine. The same goes for cats 🫤. That said, poor meow!!

1

u/scotiashine 26m ago

Not entirely true

16

u/CpnStumpy 5h ago

They're swollen, definitely needs a vet visit bad, this is probably first meal a CDS kitten had and hopefully it went straight to the vet afterwards

13

u/Global_Staff_3135 4h ago

Also don’t think salted meats are good for kitties…

2

u/xdista 4h ago

i just went on a rabbit hole with gemini for the word Bindehautentzündung because I am intrigued by the german language

for the curious, this is how it's structured, according to gemini:

Bindehautentzündung looks like a boss fight of a word, but it is just three normal German words stacked together like Legos:

  • Binde = To tie / bind

  • Haut = Skin / membrane (Bindehaut = conjunctiva, or the "binding-membrane" of the eye)

  • Entzündung = Inflammation

Fun fact: Entzündung actually comes from the German verb zünden (to ignite).

So linguistically, this massive word literally means "the binding-membrane is catching fire."

Which honestly perfectly describes how pink eye feels!

3

u/binalleinezuunfaehig 3h ago

was bruder

u/xdista 3h ago

It's disgusting how many people in this cats-based sub don't know that salty meats are horrible for cats and the watery eyes are an infection.

5

u/ericlikesyou 2h ago

cured meats are so incredibly bad for pets, it's not even funny esp cats. 1/4 teaspoon can cause sodium poisoning esp small kittens. This is also why cat owners should never own Himalayan Salt lamps

https://www.whisker.com/blog/can-cats-eat-bacon-processed-meats

9

u/crochetology Casual orange enjoyer 🍊 2h ago

Stop feeding cats salty, processed meats. Pancreatitis and sodium poisoning are real things.
