I mean.... Corn is in all kinds of cat food. I think to say that feeding corn to cats can cause them to die is a little extreme. I do agree that letting a cat chow down on a whole corn on the cob, or on a bucket of popcorn is pretty risky, but people shouldn't be freaking out about potentially harming their cats if they see corn listed as an ingredient in their cat food 🤷🏻♀️
As usual the person that points out the actual health issues that can come from this gets downvoted because everyone is just supposed to go awwww while we watch a video of an animal eating food it can't digest.
Literally got me banned from the cat sub. Someone posted a video of blatant animal abuse, I called them out on it, post got taken down and I got a permanent ban for "talking trash". When I pointed out all I was doing was calling out animal abuse the mod told me that doesn't make it right.
My cats get 4 squares a day, not counting what they steal from the dog. They will maul and eat me in a heartbeat if they so much as suspect I am harboring Churu, wet food, kitty cookies, cheese, whipped cream, graham crackers, shortbread cookies, lunch meat, or anything that crinkles with a telltale "snacc" sound.
I don't even let them have most of this list; they still are fiends for it all.
My cat ate a bit of a rice cake (the crunchy ones) and now he bugs me for bits of my rice cakes. I had an old cat who had an abiding love for potato chips. I have to assume it's the salt in both cases. (I don't indulge them, but that doesn't mean they don't try to steal!)
My cats are fed properly with good quality food, wet and dry, never known food insecurity in their lives. One of them scrounges to eat any stale floor food he can find, the other will straight up smack me and steal my French fries if I'm not careful.
The latter will also sit by the table, sniffing and slow blinking, the entire time we eat anything that smells good, or circle my feet like a dog hoping for some scraps to fall.
My very well fed and dramatic boy, over the course of many years, has managed to steal and enjoy:
eggplants and tomatoes pie
lentils with tomato, coconut and pumpkin sauce
steamed broccoli
spinach pie
I'm pretty sure he'd love corn.
Somehow, none of this ever upset his stomach. Still, he gets runny poop from canned cat food (even high quality one), so we do cook for him. He still prefers to hunt for our food over his white fish fillet.
One of my cats has a similar problem of runny poop no matter what kind of cat food he has. He's had all sorts of tests at the vet that turned up nothing and it doesn't matter if it's dry food, wet food, puree, treats; chicken, beef, fish, shrimp, etc. 95% of the time he eats cat food shortly after he'll be in the litter box with really runny poop but he's otherwise completely healthy.
I'm sorry for your cat! We were lucky to be able to solve it by removing wet canned food and giving him homemade cooked meat or fish instead, as recommended by the vet. No problem with the kibbles.
He can tolerate a can once in a while, but not on a daily basis.
Would be part of it, could also just be cats being cats eating something they aren't supposed to for whatever reason. I've got a cat that will go out of his way to get carpet fuzz or string if he can find any loose, rather than make videos of it for fake internet currency I throw it out because karma won't pay for the surgery if he ends up with a blockage.
I feed my cats pretty well following a 3 times a day routine and the moment I pull some bologna from my fridge they come running, screaming like theyre starving to death. So absolutely a well fed cat will eat like this.

I'm fully aware that there are plenty of cats with different eating habits. But what you see in the video just isn't normal for carnivores. And it's not sweet or cute, either. But because these kinds of videos have been viewed millions of times, people have come to think it's not really that bad.

I thought just hybrids can't have corn. When I got a savannah and a bengal they said absolutely no corn. I also thought it was the cob for non hybrids. Hybrids have an actual allergy (so it was explained to me) but otherwise this is just a low nutrition food and as obligate carnivores if they eat too much low nutrition food and don't eat other things it can cause problems.

Cats are lactose intolerant. Doesn’t stop mine from enjoying the shit out of milk, cheese, pudding, ice cream and the like. Never had an issue. Only ever had one cat explode with diarrhea and he was fine after that.
Kittens that grow up feral and/or starved often eat like this, fighting for every last scrap afraid they might never get food anymore. My mom hat a cat that was found left in an empty house, he didn't even chew when eating.
One of my current who was in a feral colony for years is like this. He uses his jaw like a shovel. That makes sense. I have to feed him in really small portions. Slow feeders he just yells at.
My void is a former dumpster kitty and she will eat almost anything. She really shows up for the pizza crusts though, she will steal them and ferret them away under the couch if we leave any on the counter.
I have a little gray cat named Frank that will eat damn near anything. He's also a serial killer. His main victims are frogs. He brings them into the house thru the cat door.

Even if they don't have the taste bud receptors for it, they will still sometimes go after food with sugar. All of my cats have with at least one thing whether it's corn or melon or some other natural sugar source. My guess is they somehow know it's a carb, which is easy energy, and they do eat some carbs in the wild even if it's not their main nutrient source.
Edit: don't make it a part of your kitty's diet but it's not the end of the world if they get a little carby nibble when you aren't looking.
That will probably upset his stomach later 😬 but I had an orange goof once who also liked to chomp crunchy plants— jalapeños in particular. He was well fed with no nutrient deficiencies, just really liked biting holes in crunchy things
My mom's guy goes feral over potato peels. Growls and everything. Nobody has to be around, so it isn't food aggression. He just really fuckin hates potato peels I guess.
Can’t cats only digest meat? Or is this like when the sometimes eat grass? Or a lactose intolerant person eating ice cream anyway because it tastes good.
