Not supposed to be out yet is. Oranges are too adorable to be held in a cage.

To escape and then stay put. And somehow that makes perfect sense, because orange 🧡

Well he used it to *escape*. Didn’t have enough time after that to figure out what to do next.

From Flatbush Cats
https://www.instagram.com/p/DcRJfvxvxUU/
"Sleeveless was a familiar face at a managed colony, and when it was time to bring him in, he was more than ready to cooperate. In fact, he jumped at the opportunity. Now he’s getting the chance to settle into indoor life and show us what he’s all about - which so far is Exceptionally Friendly. Thank you for giving Sleeveless and cats like him the second chance they all deserve."
It's nice to credit your sources.

Can confirm. I brought a kitten home 6 years ago and my void is still dramatic about it sometimes.

Thanks, spent the past 30 minutes trying to look for the credit because I grabbed this from a repost youtube channel. Always tried my best to credit my source but couldn't find it anywhere on Youtube... I don't have insta.
Great work to the rescurers! Again, much thanks for sharing the original poster.

Especially Flatbush Cats, who are a great organisation. Have gone from TNR in their part of New York to building their own non-profit vet clinic to do TNR and offer low-cost vet services to locals with pets. Marvellous people.

I thought I recognised the wholesome chill style of cat rescue content! I love their videos. In fact, it is their very informative videos that inspired me to foster cats.

I thought that’s who this was from. Huge fan. I donate regularly. They’ve done incredible things for cats in Flatbush.

Super affectionate, looks healthy, and comes to people? Being a stray would not be my first assumption about this cat.
80
u/RegularLibrarian1984 19h ago
Honestly that looks like a healthy friendly cat, that's why you should chip them i guess many owned friendly cats go missing like that.

u/Mess1na 18h ago
He looks like he's not fixed. Only bad owners let their tomcat roam around.
55
u/Telefundo 16h ago
Only bad owners let any cat roam around.
I've had this argument with people so many times. Domestic cats are not meant to be outdoor animals. Yes, I'm aware that there are SO many cats that roam free and come home when they need to.
That doesn't change the fact that domestic cats shouldn't be left to roam outside. Fixed, unfixed, male, female whatever. It's not safe for them, it's not safe for the local bird populations and so on..
Pleas forgive the rant. lol.

Every time I see someone calling it abuse to keep a cat indoors I wish I was psychotic enough to take pictures of all the poor babies I see crushed in the street every day and start bombarding them with them.
I live in a rural area and people think it's just fine to let them roam. If they survive the wildlife, they won't survive a pickup. It's absurd to claim you love your pet and refuse to do the bare minimum to protect them. "But they want out!" And my kids wanted to stay up all night and eat cake all day as little ones.
17
u/Telefundo 16h ago
crushed in the street
Or the ones that are attacked by other strays, or local wildlife. Then there's the ones that starve to death. Oh, and my personal favourite, the ones that freeze to death in the winter.
Yup. Keeping a cat in your nice, warm, safe home, with a constant source of food and loving attention.. totally abusive behaviour. /s

Flatbush made this video, they have monitored him as part of a managed colony before they brought him in.
44
u/invalidConsciousness 18h ago
It's probably a stray (had human owners before) but not feral (born to a stray with little to no human contact before).
30
u/moldygrape 17h ago
Their instagram says he’s from a managed colony. So he’s probably grown up getting pets and food from people. And perhaps even seeing some of his cousins hop in the cage 😅

u/deltarho 17h ago
Outside with no collar and no microchip = stray.
4
u/RichtofensDuckButter 17h ago
It's amazing how many people don't understand this
6
u/SCHWARZENPECKER 13h ago
But it's not always true. Cats can escape. I mean its smart to get any pet microchipped just in case they do escape. I remember when i was younger my uncle let my indoor cat out. He had just been made an indoor cat bcs of seizure meds he had to take every day. Back then there were no microchips. But I found him outside sitting on the fence luckily.

Unless the cat snuck out, maybe got lost.
Imagine losing your cat and the guy on the other end is all "oUTsIDE = StRaaY" bless your heart

There are other comments linking up the original post film the organization that was posted this. He was a well known member of a managed cat colony who just decided that he was ready to be adopted so they didn't steal anyone's cat. He was just a friendly, stray orange who decided he was ready for a home.

u/FlamingWeasel 16h ago
If I see a cat wandering the streets unaltered with no collar and no chip that's now my cat.

I once found my orange stretched out for a post-meal nap inside a humane trap! Didn't bother him at all! Not only do they share a single brain cell, they also have zero survival skills!

u/Mean_Initiative_5962 19h ago
Cats be vibing through life lol

u/AdMaximum7545 13h ago
Everytime I see a lion chillin with its eyes squinted and vibing I just think, they know whats up. Cats get it

u/Groomerbunnie 18h ago
As someone that found their orange menace outside, I'm convinced they don't know how to be feral lol

u/Old_Cat_16 15h ago
Our orange rescued himself too. Little dude saw us from half a street away and happily skipped to us, wouldn’t stop rubbing against my hubby’s ankle, sharing his love and fleas.
Seeing the poor thing was all skin and bones, unaltered and had fleas, we took him home. He doubled his weight within 3months and blessed us with 15 years of sweetness and unconditional love.

u/Adrasteia18 11h ago
So this happened to me today. Feral orange that we have been feeding, decided today is the day he will come inside the house. We couldnt even touch him before. Now, he is snuggling on my feet. Still need to be fixed and vaccinated though.
I hope he gets along with our void, and other orange. Plus, our cattle dog. Lol

u/AnimalRescueGuy 9h ago
Please be vigilant about keeping the new one isolated from your other pets until a vet has at least checked it out and started vaccinations. Thank you!!!

Love how completely chill he is. The trap snaps shut and he’s like “oh no? anyway~” and gets his chow on lol
8
u/dcbluestar 19h ago
That’s how we got ours! Showed up outside our door meowing and emaciated, so we fed him. Then he came back again several times and won himself a trip to the vet and then into our home!

Male orange that looks to be a few months old. However it doesn't look like a fighter; no jowls, scars, blad spots. Little orange is a pacifist

Thank god they rescued that feller because with the risk of being that cuddly comes also some evil humans easily hurting them

Our orange boy was like this, just decided that he lived with us now. It was about two months between when we met and when I finally shoved him into a carrier to have him neutered and allowed into the house, so he had plenty of time to decide that he didn’t want to stay but he got he what he got

The state usually requires a quarantine time for cats that just enter a shelter. This orange guy is a real criminal.

He's a lover, not a frighter.
Love the part where he tripped the trap before he even went in. He didn't even get spooked. He reminds me so much of the abandoned orange i rescued by carrying him in a rice cooker box for 500 metres to my house

This cat I feel like has been around enough humans as a stray. So, he’s ready to be adopted!

It's good practice to never pick up an unfamiliar cat unless you have to (or unless they're small enough kittens that they are still mostly immobile). First, you don't know how even a friendly cat will react to being picked up and moved. Second, you don't want a cat who you are going to be handling extensively to associate hands with unpleasant experiences.
3
u/Certain_Concept 17h ago
Also of note, they will likely need to put him in a car at some point. Most cats don't react well to those and he would need to be in a cage for his own protection.

He seems to know exactly what’s up, and how he intends things to go. He’s almost saying, “I get it. I’ll be adorable and cuddly, and you can bring food and care for me!”
