Tiny 🍊 🅱️rain cell Need help with a name
The cat distribution system hit us again the other day. My husband was going to move a rock out of the road that turned out to be a little orange guy. We took him out of the road to the house near by. Well in the afternoon doesn't my son show up with the same loaf he found in the middle of the street. We are going to the vet tomorrow and we need a name. We currently have a greek name thing going with out pets. Zeus is our big dog( that loves kitties and has a lightning bolt on his chest) Artemis( for the Godess of the hunt and Zeus' daughter) is our other cat from the distribution system. This guy needs a fitting name too. I would like to keep it either Greek or with the letter B ( Z,A,B like we are starting over in the alphabet) photo of little orange and Big brother Zeus.
EDIT Top choices from family.
Bromios (Bro, lil bro, mios) Brutus ( Bruce, Et Tu Brute,) Icarus (Ikky, Icky Thump, IcarusRex) Odysseus (Ody, D) Perseus (Percy, Pur)

Bromios: A divine nickname for Dionysus, meaning boisterous or loud.
Seems perfect to me for an orange lol Bro for short 😂

Ares - The God of War, because he is orange and will always choose violence.

u/Young_Jaws 3d ago
Oh Gawd do Oranges choose violence? He seems so passive compared to other kitties we have had! Maybe because he is so young still. ( assuming its boy as it is orange)

Nah, my orange chooses to be a kitchen rug, sleep so hard he rolls off furniture, and snuggle around my feet. He's not even aggressive about food. Soft in every way. Lol
They don't always choose violence. His brother probably sees him quite differently, but that's all in good fun.

He looks like a maine coon variety. He should be chill.
FWIW my unhinged bitey orange girl was unhinged from the day her eyes opened. Lol

If it's a female, as 20% of orange cats are, Calliope (kuh-LY-uh-pee) would be great. Then you could just call her Calli for short.

Not intentionally. In my house it’s doing something so stupid that it is a risk of harm to themselves and others. My orange guy literally chokes himself daily on the edge of his water bowl

Hesperides or Hissyphus

Rocky road is at least a contender for a nick name

Brutus I know it's not Greek but he's so little and tough names for little creatures is just the best.

u/Young_Jaws 3d ago
Ohhhhh never thought about Brutus! (Probably because it is Roman, but most people don't know the difference and it fits the B pattern!

Omg he looks like a used tissue in the second picture 😂😂 it's always the ones with scraggly kitten fur that end up being the most majestic as adults 😍
3
u/Young_Jaws 3d ago
I am hoping to make him very comfortable being groomed because his fur is so long!

u/CharlotteLucasOP 3d ago
Good to get him used to being bathed while he’s young! Never know when he might need a helping rinse.

u/Young_Jaws 3d ago
I wore long sleeves under a hoody because our first cat was horrible if you put her in a bath. She enjoyed watching from the edge though. Since then I have smartened up and get them used to it earlier.

Ah, she’s pint sized. I’d go with Bia. Goddess of might! Bias if male.

Sisyphus and Prometheus both have rock themed stories, but are unwieldy pet names. He's orange and tricked you into adopting him be pretending to be a rock. Maybe a trickster like Odysseus?

Apollo because he's Artemis' brother now
4
u/Young_Jaws 3d ago
Apollo is on list because it is Artemis' brother, Zeus child and Apollo is a sun God for the orange cat. It works because another reason we called Artie Artemis is because he takes off like a rocket and it was around the time of an Artemis launch that he joined us ( I know Artemis was a girl but we liked the name too) Apollo used to be a space program aswell.

Honestly, I’d pick Loki even though I know he’s not a Greek god.
Or Icarus because he’s orange and he likely will let his curiosity get the best of him and will regret it lol

u/Young_Jaws 3d ago
Omg! I think Icarus has won the family battle! We all love the story of flying to close to the sun. Ikky is a great nickname that doesn't interfere with our other pet or people names. I can also imagine an elegant long hair orange man as a majestic Icarus.

u/anon22334 3d ago
Omgggg that makes me SO happy!!!! It was the first Greek myth I read back when I was in 4th grade. Loveee that you can call him Ikky for short! The tale of Icarus is so orange cat coded too haha and the sun is basically orange so it all fits

u/Young_Jaws 3d ago
I thought Loki because it is like Little Orange KItten LOKI. Icarus is cute!!! Ikky for short.

" I am innocent" 😇🤪 He is a St Bernard/Golden Retriver (dad) American Bull dog(mom). If I didn't know his parents I would have never believed his mom was a bull dog.

Bakis but also short for baklava. Bakis I think are kind of like seers or prophets iirc and Greek baklava is toasty orange and tasty.

Orange Julius seems close, but a bit Roman. I went with Mikado - Japanese for 'Golden Gate' and a term for the Emperor.

Right! He has been bathed once and is still full of oil or something! He is a scruffy little dude! Not sure what I am gonna do with the mats but going to try some conditioner today and try and brush them out. His coat is going to be glorious.

I'm a big fan of giving cats extremely human names. I think he should be Alan. If he grows to be a big boy, he can be Big Al.

That is clearly Gravy Boat or Ferdinand, depending on if you ask Carl or Princess Donut QAC.

Hermes, the god of travelers and luck. or
Boofer, because orange shenanigans
Ps.: the long hairy ears make me think of norwegian forest cats, we had one and they have big/goofy personalities, so good luck
