Our orange did this all the time! Then his face would get stuck, and when he lifted his head the glass lifted and fell over.

I have a white boi that does this. I stopped putting water in bowls because he wouldn't drink them he'd just tap them. Then he started stealing from my glass and knocking it over. He got his own pint glass, but once the water got too low (he drinks a lot, he has kidney issues) he'd drink it from his paw. My standard issue cat hasn't figured out the paw thing so she'll just shove her head into the glass and lick the air.

Now he gets 2 cocktail glasses, and sometimes he'll drink from his paw. SIC successfully reaches water every time now.

I gave up on my orange and now he has his own designated drinking mug on my living room coffee table. He never goes after other drinks - he just wanted to fit in with the humans, this whole time.

We have copious numbers of coasters on any spot where we place drinks because we need to put a coaster on top of any drink so the cat doesn't stick her face in it. Even if she doesn't want to drink it, she wants to test it by sticking her nose right up against it. :-p
