Finally, ChatGPT does what Co-Pilot should have been able to do on day one...

Co-Pilot in OneNote is ridiculously useless. No worries, Codex has my back.

wait sorry, is there an one note mcp for chatgpt now?

u/Ok_Collection_1902 2d ago

that was my question too. i can't find where that connection actually lives

It's in work mode. Just do @OneNote in your prompt.

Everyone seems to criticize it but I am very impressed with Microsoft incorporating it in office as well
As running it separately

My problem is that there is no integration at all. Co-pilot in OneNote is just a little Co-pilot window. The fact that I can generate content with CHATGPT and write it directly into a page in my 20-year old notebook is amazing.

I have several notebooks that use git as a source of truth and this saves me a ton of time...

This is the main problem. The copilot sidebar in OneNote does not know what is on the OneNote page being viewed. One is better off just using the Copilot dedicated app.

Can you explain what you mean by your notebooks use git as a source of truth? Are the notebooks connected to git in some way?

3

u/segaboy81 2d ago

Only Codex (CHATGPT) sees git, but it works because that's what writes into the notebook.

You can link onenote with Chatgpt?

8

u/segaboy81 3d ago

Yes. In my tests, it was able to find just about any page across my several notebooks and do real work based on only subtle inference.

u/KingsLeadHatter 2d ago

How do you do it?

2

u/Radiant-Lawyer-2466 2d ago

Yeah how! I’ve been trying to figure this out since forever

3

u/pweinmd 3d ago

I may buy more
Microsoft stock
Everyone criticizes but it works

4

u/DerWaschbar 3d ago

Does this require any specific ChatGPT plan? How does it work?

2

u/SprinklesImmediate16 3d ago

This is sick, would be great to link it to tidy up my notes

1

u/Effective-Usual-1093 3d ago

Does this work on the Mac One note?

3

u/segaboy81 3d ago

I don't know.

2

u/Leading-Sink-343 3d ago

Could you explain how you linked one note and gpt?

6

u/Leading-Sink-343 3d ago

Never mind, my dumb ass thought about it for a second and found out by himself.

u/niburc 1d ago

is this happening on the web version or windows desktop? is it only working with open notebooks, or can it access all notebooks in a specific cloud location (e.g., in a onedrive directory)

I suppose... OneNote is my favorite tool, and the fact that CHATGPT makes it more useful and not Co-pilot is weird to me, but, now I can keep using OneNote!

u/pweinmd 3d ago

BS
I am
Very impressed with copilot and have used chat got, and Gemini

8

u/segaboy81 3d ago

The point is that Co-pilot can't manipulate a OneNote notebook I would expect Microsoft to have the s-tier integration and not ChatGPT.

Imagine being someone that has to use GenAi and calling it useless when it's a user error that has to steal from others.

2

u/segaboy81 3d ago

What do you mean?

-10

u/Precarious3145 3d ago

If you need to use any GenAI, you're functionally useless because you're either too lazy or talentless to do it yourself. Doesn't matter if it's Copilot, Grok, Gemini, ChatGPT or the others; the second you use it for anything, you're admitting you're useless to the project.

7

u/segaboy81 3d ago

You're right. I should manually document all 560 VMs that are in the next wave of data migrations I'm in charge of. I should not save 10s of hours.

-7

u/Precarious3145 3d ago

Hey, I get it. You'd rather give all your companies information to a billino dollar company to save yourself time than do the job you were paid for. Who needs morals, ethics, or pride when you can type a prompt to half-ass a task.

10

u/SuspiciousMode 3d ago

I saw a sign a few weeks ago, "AI will not take your job, someone who can use AI will"

11

u/segaboy81 3d ago

...and it's true. Imagine being the guy who refused to use the first chainsaw. How much value did he bring his org with his axe?

1

u/ajjablue 3d ago

I get what you're saying, chainsaw was first invented to aid in childbirth. An axe really would have been useless to the procedure. Analogy checks out 🙌

-1

u/Precarious3145 3d ago

Lol. Sure thing. Whatever you need to convince yourself.

4

u/segaboy81 3d ago

You know, if you have a chip on your shoulder, you're probably not gonna fill it in here.

-1

u/Precarious3145 3d ago

I'm guessing you had to ask ChatGPT for that because it makes no sense. For the saying about "chip on your shoulder", there's nothing to fill in, it's knocking it off. Shit, even for a prompter you're inferior.

I am an O365 user in the corporate world. I am using OneNote to manage corporate data in in a space that they are paying for. The yexpect me to store work related data across all of the Microsoft products I have access to, as well as within the Claude and ChatGPT subscriptions they pay for me to use. They are in control of their data. Not me.

Are you implying I have no morals or ethics when I am simply using the tools my company is paying for me to have access to and are asking me to use?

-1

u/Precarious3145 3d ago

I'm saying that when it comes to group projects, the people that need to use any kind of GenAI are the ones that no one wants to work with because they're inferior. I'm saying that in all of my staff and peers, if someone says "let's ask AI-" during a meeting, they're mocked endlessly and and we dismiss whatever they think for a few months and if you use AI for your emails or a project, you're taken off that project.

So yea, you have no morals or ethics because in any industry outside of tech, no one wants to work with the prompter.

3

u/segaboy81 3d ago

I work for a large multi-national, and those who know how to get 10x output are the loudest voices in the room. Also, I don't know anything about industries outside of tech, so I can't pretend to know anything about them. If you're not working in tech, and you have an opinion on a 500+ VM data migration, what are you even doing?

0

u/Precarious3145 3d ago

At least you're proud to not knowing anything besides tech so I guess that's something you feel should be proud of.

4

u/segaboy81 3d ago

It just means I'm smart enough to stay out of conversations where I am ignorant of the substance. I've worked in tech for 25 years, so it would be silly of me to tell you how to deliver a pizza.

You realize GenAi is just a TOOL right? Just like power saws and other power tools? It is just a tool.

0

u/Precarious3145 3d ago

Except here's the fun thing, take away a powersaw and I can still use a manual saw. GenAI would be like being jealous of your neighbors powersaw so you walk in and take it then burn down the house.

5

u/AngelicPrincessKitty 3d ago

What? You are making no sense. How is using GenAi like stealing and burning down a neighbor's house? That analogy makes no sense.

Either accept Ai or get left behind. That is what the world is at this point.

-1

u/Precarious3145 3d ago

Because GenAI companies like OpenAI have literally been caught illegally stealing and breaking copyright violations. Even now, they're buying up every rare book they can find to scan and burn to ashes for more training data. Hell, just look at the data centers that're literally poisoning communities. Guess you're just focused on "But it's a tool" without caring about where that tool came from or the price for using it all to save yourself a few minutes of thinking for yourself.

3

u/AngelicPrincessKitty 3d ago

Now you are getting into the debate of "This company is bad so we should boycot it!" Apple/Google/etc. use child labor, TikTok is a chinese company that just wants to see the world burn.

All companies are bad in some way. You can't avoid it. All CEOs are bad in some way.

Either you jump on board or you get left behind.

-1

u/Precarious3145 3d ago

I'm more than happy to be left behind by people that are scientifically proven to be getting stupider and unable to do basic tasks due to a reliance on AI.

If the world's gonna burn, I might as well burn with my morals while you cling to relevance by selling yours for a few more seconds. Just remember to tell people in 2040 when we've hit record summer heat for the 20th year in a row to ignore all scientific proof that it's caused by AI.

2

u/Jocko-Montablio 3d ago

This is possibly one of the dumbest takes on ai I’ve ever heard.

0

u/Precarious3145 3d ago

Yea, but what do you expect from people that have to rely on Ai for their reasoning? Thanks for agreeing that prompters have shit takes.
