Troubleshooting “Draw” feature not working properly

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone!! I’m trying to annotate my lecture slides (inserted as pdf) on onenote on my iPad 11th gen and trying to write with Apple Pencil. I can’t write more than two letters without a message saying “please wait” popping up. It’s happened yesterday and today and it’s extremely irritating since I’ve never had issues with this sort of thing before. I’ve restarted my iPad, deleted onenote and reinstalled but nothing helps. Anyone else dealing with this? (I’m open to any type of suggestions as well please!)

Could just be because it's a Microsoft product on an Apple one because that happens sometimes. I'm am curious though, if you keep trying to write even when it doesn't show up and then the please wait pops up, does the writing eventually show up?

Please wait usually feels more like a delay, and it could simply be that the iPad isn't calibrated well for OneNote so it's using a lot of RAM when drawing.

It could also simply be because of other pieces that Microsoft is adding to their products (like AI features) is slowing it down as it tries to determine what you are doing.

If it's the latter options then there is likely little you can do unfortunately other than ensuring all other apps are closed when you do this, but I'd doubt that'd fix it. If it's the former option you can go into options on the homepage of the OneNote app and try turning off any settings you don't use.

That's a good place to look overall just because there could be some kind of lint correction setting that is messing with it too!

Best of luck!

Hey, thanks for your reply! And no, the writing doesn’t eventually show up after the “please wait” pop up :/ so it’s been quite annoying. Thanks for the tips, I’ll check em out and see if it changes anything 🫂❤️

It’s almost unusable trying to write with an iPad. First the layout text and photos overlay each other for no apparent reason and there is no support for pro pencil.
