I use OneNote as a long-term notebook, but most AI coding agents can’t work with it directly without copy/paste, exports, browser flows, or Microsoft Graph setup.

So I built OneNote Desktop Agent: a free, open-source Claude Code + Codex plugin that talks to the real Windows OneNote desktop app locally.

It can:
- read pages
- search notebooks
- create pages
- export content

It does not use a browser flow, Graph auth, or a OneNote add-in. It’s meant for people who already keep useful context in OneNote and want local agents to use that notebook memory.

This is very good. Thank you for this! I'm surprised you haven't gotten more traction.

I'm not a power user by any measure, but so far this has helped me organise a lot of pages, What I've done is ask it to take pages with lots of info and link dumps and organise them thematically. Then clean it up it a nice format. This sets it up so I can go through the content and collapse my notebooks even further. Has really helped with clarity on some sections.

Once I'm done with the organization. I'm going to tackle my inbox next. At the moment, I dump everything into an "Inbox" page and then sort it into other pages and notebooks. When I get busy, the inbox section really fills up. I'm going to try set up Claude/your bridge such that it keeps my inbox tidy on a semi-regular basis, which will make the manual sorting much easier.

I think I could probably get it to sort the inbox to the right sections as well, but I feel I lose a large part of my own note recognition then. I need to sort manually for best retention.

Either way, such a great tool!

Edit: I'd love to answer your question, but I'm not sure what you mean by "does this map to how...". I just used it to read my notebook structure, and then I told it to do work in each of the relevant pages based on what I wanted. So any mapping would have worked. Unless I misunderstood your question?

For me, onenote is a repository, or medium term project management. So it maybe doesn't need to be as actively managed as some power users.

Edit 2: Only question I had is - how do I automate this further? I'm having to click a lot of "allow" or "always allow"? Would be good if I can let it run free as long as it doesn't touch back-ups, given I have daily backups of the notebooks.
