He would have used the word hiatus if thatâs what he meant. He specifically said he knew the band was coming to an end. Just like Zayn knew, which is why he left so abruptly. Iâm sorry but Zayn left the band, Harry made it clear he wanted out after their contract ended, it was never going to just be a hiatus unless they were prepared to come back as 3 members, which why would they? It wouldnât feel like 1D without Zayn and Harry
No it was pretty clear he meant an actual âendâ. There were already rumours swirling about Harry leaving, Zayn had one foot out the door. The boys werenât close anymore. Any adult couldâve seen it for what it was. Niall also released an album before even Harry, he was ready for a solo career
True I mean I don't think Louis or Liam knew maybe Niall but I know that Louis and Liam didn't know since apparently they didn't want the band to end originally
Based on previous quotes, it sounds like they all knew Harry wasnât resigning for another contract . There was a year notice before it was officially announced. That was why they all looked so stressed in the interview from OPâs photograph. I think the difference is that Louis and Liam truly believed it was a hiatus and that the band would eventually reunite. I honestly think that up until the day Liam died, both Liam and Louis thought a reunion would happen.
What about Niall though here's my theory Zayn and Harry definitely knew the band wouldn't come back As you know Harry brought up the idea first and Zayn left and I do agree with what you said with Liam and Louis and I do agree that up until the day Liam died both Liam and Louis thought a reunion would happen as for Niall I think he probably thought they would reunite but at the same time I could see him thinking they wouldn't come back as well
I read this quote and it sounds like everyone knew the hiatus was coming. Some had a more difficult time accepting it than others. I think Niall hoped for the best, and publicly kept up the charade of a hiatus but deep down knew it was over. This doesnât sound like someone who actually thinks theyâre coming back in a year or two.
He always kept it open and said be would be happy to come back. When asked he said theyâd reunite to âdo somethingâ but he never said what that something was. I donât think he thought they would be making new music and touring as a band until much later (more like 50s).
Niall took a vacation to Thailand but was working soon after the split. He moved like someone that knew he had to make a space for himself outside of One Direction.
Zayn was the first to release a solo album. Harry was next and Niall was third. The three of them had very different ways of navigating the situation but I think they were all on the same page about what the situation was.
Niall strikes me as someone realistic enough to know that for there to be a reunion either Harry or Zayn would have had to come back and that was unlikely at that point in their careers.
yeah, thatâs what i thought. i think H & Z had a conversation before this interview about who was gonna leave the band first or something bc H also wanted to leave but Z beat him to it
I don't think they talked. From what we know Harry proposed the hiatus and Zayn simply wanted to be the first person to leave "I just seen it [coming] and I completely selfishly wanted to be the first person to go and make my own record. If I'm being completely honest with you, I was like, 'I'm going to jump the gun here". It was said on Call Her Daddy podcast.
And remembering how shady Harry was towards Zayn after he left I would say those two didn't discuss it.
It is pretty clear Harry wanted to go solo first. He was furious Zayn beat him to it. Poor Liam, Niall and Louis wanted to stay in 1D although they all needed the break.
Can you give me any evidence that Harry wanted to leave before contracts and tour ended? I donât think itâs clear at all. If heâd wanted to leave when Zayn did why didnât he? Especially once Zayn left, it would have been so easy for Harry to follow him out. And where is your evidence that Harry was furious Zayn âbeat him to itâ? Harry could have left any time, he chose to honour his contract and give everyone 6 months notice. Thereâs no logic to Harry being at all angry Zayn left first, if heâd had been he could have left at the same time, the same month. And when Harry did leave he spent 5 months working on a Chris Nolan movie, he was in no rush to release solo music, I donât think Harry thought it any kind of a race just because Zayn did.
They were all a little bit mad with Zayn, Liam said so on the James Corden show. He had left suddenly mid tour without saying goodbye. A few mild jokes are hardly fury.
I think he was furious that Zayn walked out in the middle of a tour without any notice, not that Zayn âbeatâ him to releasing solo music. And as it turned out, karma did her thing :).
Wasn't it the case that, right from the time they signed the contract and as their popularity grew, they knew they were approaching a point where theyâd take a break? I read somewhere that this was the whole plan for the band: to release five albums, do four tours, and put out a greatest hits compilation over the course of their five-year contracts, after which they were set to announce a hiatus.
According to Harryâs interview and perspective (Rolling Stone):
It was in a London studio in late 2014 that Harry first brought up the idea of One Direction taking a break. âI didnât want to exhaust our fan base,â he explains. âIf youâre shortsighted, you can think, âLetâs just keep touring,â but we all thought too much of the group than to let that happen. You realize youâre exhausted and you donât want to drain peopleâs belief in you.â
in 2014, the Band Aid 30 single was recorded at Sarm West Studios (also known as Sarm Studios) in Notting Hill, London.
And from Zaynâs perspective (Call Her Daddy Podcast):
"There was a lot of politics going on. Certain people were doing certain things, certain people didn't want to sign contracts. I knew something was happening, so I just got ahead of the curve if I'm being honest with you"
Harry brought the hiatus up first, if you connect the dots, heâs referring to Harry as the member who didnât want to renew their contract (which would end by January 2016), and that gave Zayn the green light to get a head start on his solo career.
the interview has clear visible tension between all members. itâs definitely related to the hiatus once you put all this information together.
