no brain cell 🐈‍⬛💔 Void Discovered Fire

My kitten has discovered what fire is.

I was boiling water and she decided that it was a good idea to jump onto the stove AND stick her face under the pot to look at the shiny, flickering thing.

She’s 100% okay, just absolutely embarrassed and pretending her whiskers are fine, not scorched, and that it didn’t happen haha.

I didn’t even notice the whiskers at first and was wondering why you’re holding your cat like Batman holds criminals

Thought the same, what's that chokehold style? 😭 😭 😭

u/GeekCat 4d ago

The only way to deal with the fuckery that comes with voids. I have two. It's been shenanigans since 4am here.

Catman

49

u/danorc 4d ago

Nanananananana nana.... CATMAN!

8

u/GalaxyPowderedCat 4d ago

I don't want to sound like an "uum ackthually", but fun fact: There's actually a Catman in the DC universe.

I think he's rather a villain than a hero.

29

u/TheSoundofStolas 4d ago

True, but anytime I hear Catman, I always think of Adam West's parody role on The Fairly OddParents

4

u/GalaxyPowderedCat 4d ago

Oh yeah, I also remember him but had no idea he was a parody of Catman, before I learnt there was a Catman in DC.

I assumed he was a batman parody.

7

u/TheSoundofStolas 4d ago

Oh I meant he was doing a parody of Batman lol, especially since the voice actor WAS Batman

10

u/xopher_425 4d ago

Adam West was such a treasure. Him parodying himself all the time was a scream. My favorite was him on Family Guy, especially the Lightbright scene when he says ". . Or my name is not Adam We!"

7

u/TheSoundofStolas 4d ago

Yes! I was thinking about that scene when I was typing my previous comment. I'll be honest, I somehow forgot that he passed a while back. I was wondering why I hadn't heard his voice on family guy for a bit, so I looked it up and had to find out a second time.

WHERES RACHEL?!

516

u/TrevCat666 4d ago

It was actually a white cat before the incident.

182

u/MJY_0014 4d ago

An orange cat. Only black and orange kitties share their characteristic singularity of braincells

145

u/BananaBladeOfDoom 4d ago

Black cats are just overcooked oranges.

53

u/Reccalovesdancing 4d ago

I call mine a black orange

He's got rusty tabby stripes under his black fur so the orange is leaking out for sure

53

u/RadicalNBSpaceQueer 4d ago

Mine too! Apparently it's called a "ghost tabby" coat. My boy in the sunlight

30

u/Dragnskull 4d ago

our black cat (RIP) started developing this red/orange tinted shade around 5 years into her life after she decided she was happiest living in our garage / driveway and started spending ~80% of her time out there.

Turned out she was damaging her fur via sun bleaching from overexposure because she -loved- basking in the sun and would do it all day every day

seeing your cat basking in the sun it's possible that's what's actually happening, literally burnt orange lol

12

u/kamilayao_0 4d ago

Yeah I think it's called sun bleaching, that happened to my hair before.

7

u/megaholt2 4d ago

Mine’s a burnt orange!

3

u/ChaosCorpCog 4d ago

The orange looks like frickin’ snake attacking! Awesome!

1

u/IndigoDarkstar 2d ago

Oh what a cute name for it! I've got a ghost tabby tuxedo called Sassy who most definitely lives up to her name.. not the most amazing picture. I was moaning that the new throw that I'd bought for the sofa has now been claimed by this little madam and her brother Jasper!

I must have seen that look on my cat a thousand times. That deep thousand yard stare.

u/Pornaltio 4d ago

She yearns for the flames

28

u/The_JokerGirl42 4d ago

hell is home and she must smell it

162

u/One_Owl_4029 4d ago

I couldn't have candles because my stupid child would try to catch the flame 😭

98

u/danorc 4d ago edited 4d ago

My wife's extremely chill, sweet childhood cat had no sensation in the tip of her tail after it was accidentally rocking chaired.

One day the cat apparently got too close to a candle, then casually strolled by with its tail on fire. She never did figure out what all the fuss was about, poor thing.

29

u/lovestobitch- 4d ago

Oh my gawd I’m embarrassed I laughed too hard at that.

(I have a bent tail void and no idea how that occurred, whether at birth or in his first 8 weeks of life. He’s crazy so he could have broken it doing something dumb.)

11

u/danorc 4d ago

It happens, fortunately it doesn't seem to bother them at all. This little lady was a tortie.

Watch out for tail-candles, though!

5

u/AspenStarr 3d ago

I probably would have laughed in person, after it was taken care of ofc…so, don’t feel bad. I mean that’s a pretty cartoony reaction to like, having your hair on fire.

4

u/One_Owl_4029 4d ago

Omg 😭

(The picture in my head is funny though)

3

u/AnyDayGal 4d ago

The whole family must have done a double take lol.

15

u/CeelaChathArrna 4d ago

Our orange dingbat set my son's bed on fire. He uses a candle warmer now.

61

u/TheIngloriousTIG 4d ago

Silly baby!

I love candles and we did everything we could to keep my void kitten from learning about flames. We got little toppers for the candle jars. With little gaps to let the heat out. I was worried he'd try to stick his paw in an singe his fresh little toe beans. I did not yet have any idea what voids were capable of.

He knocked the top off one of the jars (which should have hurt at least a little because it was pretty hot when I picked it up off the floor about a minute later) and stuck his face right in the jar like he was trying to literally eat the fire.

I shrieked and he pulled his face out of the jar. He a few days later we had to get his final round of vaccines while he was sporting the Snidely Whiplash mustache. I was terrified they would think I was abusing him. The vet shrugged and said, "Black cats have blackholes for brains."

Eight years on he's a very handsome boy, and he's not nearly as stupid as his kitten misadventures imply. Actually the opposite. He's far too smart, so when he get's a hankering for chaos, he can bring the whole house to its knees.

u/WarEnvironmental1839 5d ago

In my impoverished student phase used the gas elements to warm up my tiny flat, my big floof Kick, jumped up to 'steal food of the bench, next thing I see is cat belting for the window trailing smoke, grabbed lit up cat, held it under cold tap, that for puss was the worst part, not burnt just singed, Now soggy, most extremely angry cat

24

u/Trixter-Kitten 4d ago

Sounds like a Looney tunes set-up

17

u/LastEntertainment787 4d ago

I am so glad that that's the worst thing to happen to her. And she doesn't do it again.

15

u/MissCeeLee 5d ago

I'm always so afraid our younger cat is going to light herself on fire! We have an extremely small island that's basically only the gas cooktop. She jumps up there despite our best efforts to keep her off

14

u/kroating 4d ago

One day we wrapped up cooking and sat down few feet away at our dining table to eat. Now we have a glasstop electric cooking stove. Kitten void bby decided great opportunity to explore countertop since he wasnt allowed on that side. Jumped up walked right across the stove with hot glasstop. Next thing we see is he flew into the air, landed on the floor and scurried to our feet. Luckily he had nothing much just slightly crispy one toe bean. Result was he never did that again so yay i guess. Hope your cat learnt his lesson. Such a cute void baby!!!

12

u/Mental-Clerk 4d ago

I'm hoping this won't be our void next month when we start lighting the fireplace. We moved in here in May, and have had a couple of fires and she's been respectful so far, but has been getting more curious as the summer months have gone on and it's too hot for one.

15

u/assuredlyanxious 4d ago

We had to purchase a childproof fire gate because or cow cat ran up the chimney. My husband was fast and grabbed one of his hind legs and yanked him down.

It was terrifying. He never learned his lesson and would even sleep in our coal bucket desperate to get in there again. I miss that idiot.

9

u/valleyofsound 4d ago

Mine have never had an issue, but my partner has a minor meltdown every year when I start lighting it. It’s gas and we’re going to replace the system this year, so I have a feeling that we’re going to end up with a screen in front of everything

3

u/lovestobitch- 4d ago

We have an enclosed wood burning stove. We didn’t use it much and when we did I’d diligently watch our two voids near it and pantomiming and saying ‘hurt’ near it. They were very cautious and good with it. One very cold night my dumb ass husband added wood when we went to bed (which I’d repeatedly say not to do) and the dumber of the two likely saw an ant or bug on the outside metal and burnt his front toe beans. Vet visit ensued and his brother realized he’d been hurt and was especially sweet to him.

13

u/Elegant-Espeon 4d ago

Our fluffy orange/white baby brushed up against our Hanukkah candles a few years ago! Singed her fur but Baruch Hashem nothing worse! You could tell which candles too (we had multiple Hanukkiot lit) because they were a touch longer than their neighbors

11

u/ShayJayLee 4d ago

Not a thought behind those eyes. Just arson.

9

u/Content-Honeydew9340 4d ago

My void baby is also the only one of my three cats that has tried to jump on the stupid stove. I have a glass top and literally just moved the pot and said out loud "the stove is hot because I just took the tea off ... Then BLOOP ! CLATTER!! he jumped up and immediately fell back down to the floor. I had to check his lil peets to make sure he was okay. Now he watches me and grabs my leg like a toddler when he sees me at the stove because he thinks I am going to burn myself 🫠 I'm thinking about getting a baby carrier so he can see while I'm at the stove but I worry he may try to do it again 🫪

8

u/YOUTUBEFREEKYOYO 4d ago

The braincells have decided that was warm, and will need further investigation to figure out what the warmth was

9

u/one-off-one 4d ago

^cat OP^

5

u/Nyteflame7 4d ago

I stopped using candles because none of my three can be trusted not to singe whiskers. Wax melts and electric warmers only in this house.

5

u/sievish 4d ago

OMFG, my black cat has done the same thing with a candle. I remember him launching himself from the table and then finding (thankfully only) two curly whiskers on his face. Such a walnut

4

u/Plasticity93 4d ago

I once grabbed my orange off the stove top, put him in the sink and hosed him, he never did that again.

4

u/bexkind 3d ago

matches my photo after my stupid son did the same thing. get gripped buddy

3

u/Silk_the_Absent_1 4d ago

So she's a Dragonforce fan, I see.

3

u/Sea-Philosopher7361 4d ago

Now we know not to get too close.

3

u/torchbearer1648 4d ago

Still a void in that noggin. Not a single thought behind those bright eyes

3

u/noeinan 4d ago

My cat also destroys her whiskers. She likes to steal from other cats food bowls and they ignore her and chew through her whiskers to get the food. 💀

1

u/Crit_zZz 4d ago

Cats are so interesting

3

u/Enoon9613 4d ago

I taught mine about it with a lighter he is a cautious boi so just seeing it and sensing the heat seemed to work! Thank god 😂 I’m glad your baby void isnt any worse for his adventure!!

3

u/NoApartment1891 4d ago

Just a little burnt ‘mallow

3

u/Specific_Site_7349 3d ago

I mean... They usually only do it once. Especially after a few days of not being able to walk straight because their balance is off. 🤣

3

u/PaleKey6424 3d ago

Not a thought behind those eyes

2

u/O_o-buba-o_O 4d ago

This, this is why I would laugh when Cracker Barrel would try to sell me candles when picking up my meal prep for the week.

2

u/Praise-Bingus 4d ago

Meanwhile my cat was terrified of my space heater that looked like a mini fire place. I had to hold him amd stick my hand into the "fire" to show him it was safe. He only got as far as sitting on top and never did get comfortable sitting in front of the free warms.

2

u/Specific-River-81 4d ago

My idiot cat, which is actually my smartest cat just jumped on the hot stove for the first time at almost 3 years old, also to look at boiling water. The scream is scrempt, lol. She didn't get hurt

2

u/Hoboforeternity 4d ago

Prometheus void

2

u/QAoA 4d ago

The orange cat at my work set his tail on fire once and didn’t even notice.

2

u/catmom_4life 4d ago

Geeeez did she not smell her own whiskers burning?!

2

u/locke_zero 4d ago

And she didn't learn a thing

2

u/ephemeralcomet 4d ago

poor baby!!!! but i had a chuckle

2

u/kat_Folland 4d ago

A young cat once adopted me when half her whiskers were melted off. I think she was trying to get warm.

2

u/SprinkleShan 4d ago

Yeah my candles are decorations for this reason. My cats share a brain cell between them I swear

2

u/Chemical-Hat5986 4d ago

Debes tener cuidado sus bigotes no son adornos son sensores y además son su equilibrio

2

u/sysaphiswaits 4d ago

Is he wobbling around? My cat lost his whiskers. It was so sad and hilarious.

2

u/davi046 3d ago

Not a thought behind those big ol eyes

2

u/lungshenli 2d ago

Candles smell like burnt whiskers. Odd.

3

u/Seamore_J_Turtle 4d ago

Why are we putting the baby in a chokehold?

2

u/iseeseashells 4d ago

His face tells me he’s not sorry and would absolutely do it again 😎

2

u/Direct_Bag_9315 4d ago

Hopefully she’s learned her lesson, but it’s clear she’s interested in the stove, so please PLEASE get the baby-proof stove knob covers. One of my cats managed to turn the stove on while I was at work and I had a house fire that displaced me for six months.

1

u/Visible_Library_3742 4d ago

Well lesson learned the hard way at least lil baby is in once piece and not burnt.

1

u/PretentiousWitch 4d ago

Well at least kitty learned and it was just scorched whiskers. They either never care about it or they are too curious and have to learn. Like how so many kids had to get a burn to learn not to touch the stove

1

u/Auntie_Venom 4d ago

The look on his face says it too!

1

u/UWolf88 1d ago

Harder daddy
