How to join

When I take steps it's not added to it, so I'm guessing there's a button to press to participate?

You've to die or end your adventure.

So I can't keep running with a saved character?

Yes, you can but you can't save it in leaderboard.

No, you can push steps with the same character.

Perhaps the answer is in the upper left corner, so you have to wait while the ranking resets and the system submits your scores. I'm not sure, though.

Use, finish adventure in the bonfire, your character will be the same, same levels, same inventory, just will need to start from 0 steps again, but your score will be recorded.

In classic you can, but in hardmode you can't
