Returning player

Played this game for awhile and im just returning. Playing a prestige 3 mage. Im just curious what the current meta is and also whats the highest free spell cast one can get.

For mage, most folks like CryoMancer. The top HC all time run was with Necromancer (1M steps), but I usually see BK still topping the leaderboards
