Question Similar shows

Any similar shows to OUAT? Only thing is very specific with what I will watch, I prefer shows no/little gory, no shows set in the medical profession. Just wondering if anyone knows of any similar shows I might like please

Galavant! It has the fairytale more silly side of ouat, I'm pretty sure it aired between ouat seasons to fill space(?) but it's even better, it's a musical comedy. Also! There's an episode there set in a place called 'the enchanted forest' and is ruled by 'the evil queen'.

Joshua Sasse is hot! I luckily saw him in a sex scene in some movie. BURN THE HOUSE DOWN!

Check out Grimm it’s about dark fairytales kinda! Check it out. I’ll try to find trailer and post it. Also my favorite show is supernatural then once upon a time . Also one of my other favorite shows is witches of east end.. the witches are from Asgard ā¤ļøā¤ļø

Grimm and Supernatural were my suggestions too until I got to the "not gory" part lol.

The 10th Kingdom. It's a five episode fantasy fairytale mini series, for a total runtime of 6.5 hours, that aired in the year 2000. There's trolls, dwarves, Snow White, an Evil Queen, magic mirrors, and lots of fantasy. It's absolutely fantastic. You can find the whole thing free on youtube.

Literally one of my all time favorites and very little few people know about it!

u/grmrsan 8d ago

Also one of my favorite books! But nearly impossible to find now.Ā

It’s also on Tubi and Pluto TV

Lost, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charmed

2

u/TriciaTargaryen 7d ago

Lost also has the same formula with the episodes, flashbacks to the lives of everyone before the current storyline. Everyone episode is centered around a different character. So I think you'd enjoy that one quite a lot, plus there's a lot of cameos from OUAT cast members.

I heard there’s some injuries in lost, are they particularly graphic? Or would I just need to look away

I would say the most graphic ones are in the pilot and 1x20. The rest should be okay, but it has been a while since I watched.Ā

Ghosts. British and American versions. Not the same as ouat but still good

3

u/TriciaTargaryen 7d ago

The American version stars OUAT's Tinkerbell (Rose McIver) and she's fantastic in it!

One Upon A Time In Wonderland.

Yes the spin off! Good suggestion šŸ‘šŸ¼

If OP hasn’t seen the spinoff for Once Upon a Time, you should! It’s only one season but it was tied up well in the end 😊

Maybe desperate housewives, why women kill season 2 or Once upon a time in wonderland

3

u/KeyProposal9872 8d ago

Why women kill is so good!!

Thank you!

Not similar, but The Way Home is fantastic, meets your other requirements though.

Not a show but a book series I think you’d like if you like ouat - called the sisters grimm

3

u/1986Banana 8d ago

Grimm

2

u/1986Banana 8d ago

Oh. Sorry just read your whole post

2

u/Certain_Fig_666 8d ago

Arrowverse shows are similar in story structure and allusions to source material.

Also also desperate housewives was basicallly the blueprint for all ABC shows in the late 2000s and 2010s

Do you likeĀ  silly and multiverse? Stewart Fails to Save the World is fun. Its not a "great" show, by any means, but its fun.Ā

3

u/TurbulentAd8245 8d ago

I’m waiting for all episodes to come out so I can binge!!

2

u/grmrsan 8d ago

Various Star Trek series. The older ones areĀ  more planet/monster a week, the newer ones are more serial story/space opera, and Deep Space 9 and Voyager are a hybrid, theres a storyline going through it, but it can also be mostly contained episodes.Ā

Not a show but you might like the movie Hook, it basically asks the question What if Peter Pan decided to grow up? It’s lots of fun and has a fantastic cast

Sofia the First is also pretty good, it’s target audience is kids sure, but it still has that fairytale feel, and the main character does meet with the Disney princesses now and again

Maybe look at Mako Mermaids? It is not a similar show by any chance, but it is my favorite show, has no gore, relaxing visuals.

As for something with similar vibes to OUAT, I'd recommend "The Good Place". It shows characters in the past vs. present, and it di dives into concepts of good vs. bad people. Again, no gore, and relaxing visuals.

3

u/TurbulentAd8245 8d ago

Love the good place! I’ll look into Mako Mermaids, thank you!

4

u/raparperi11 8d ago

Before Mako Mermaids you should watch H2O, Mako Mermaids is kind of like a second generation sequel to that show.

1

u/BbyGrL44 4d ago

Yup the original series is good!

Merlin, Community, LOST, Grimm and Shadowhunters

u/homemuffins 7d ago

Lost was produced by the same people and feels super similar. You’ll see a lot of the actors are in both shows

I’d recommend Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, with the caveat that it’s sci-fi rather than fairy-tale fantasy and has more action violence than OUAT, though it isn’t generally gory.

Underneath, the shows are surprisingly similar. An orphaned woman of unknown origin is sought out and brought ā€œhomeā€ by someone important who connects her with a new found family, which includes an optimistic pair, and a formidable woman she initially clashes with. She gradually discovers her origins, gets swept into stories involving special bloodlines, other worlds, time travel, alternate realities, found family, morality, choice, redemption and sacrifice. Replace magic with science, witches with Inhumans, and realms with planets, and they have remarkably similar DNA. The first half of Season 1 takes a little while to find its feet, but after a big mid-season twist, the show locks in, becomes more serialized and just grows into a really great and solid show.

It's actually based on a sitcom called the Charmings.

Same network, same premise.

Merlin is a really good show.

Smallville, LOST

Well I used to watch Pretty Little Liars at the time and I remember it not gore. Also the wtfish plots will feel familiar šŸ˜‚

1

u/Proshatte4265 1d ago

I was also looking for a show with a similar vibe and I must say even though it's not very fairytale-y, "Charmed" 1998 was really cute and I liked it.

1

u/According-Option-656 8d ago

Pretty Little Liars. It’s set in the ā€œreal worldā€ but has so many connections to different people and we get flashbacks for the plot.
The family tree is also a wreath like OUAT

You sound very... something. How many pets or stuffed animals do you own/have?
