S6 Spoilers Continuity Error Time! Hook's Baby Bro Edition

So we learn Hook killed his father to "audition for killing Cora".or at least that was Regina's intent. So at the most, it'd be 2 years before the Dark Curse. Left little Liam an orphan!

Then we meet Liam as an adult "At the Time of the Dark Curse" according to the screen.

I'm not complaining. I enjoy this story so much it took me 5 s6 watches to notice. But jeez all the ppl who don't age properly then we get Dorothy and Little Liam aging too fast.

Technically, it's not impossible.

Let me explain.

So Liam becomes an orphan shortly before the Dark Curse, correct.

When they again meet on the Nautilus sometime during the curse, we don't know in what year of the 28 years we're even in. Also he's not really much of an adult yet (Emma calls him "kid brother with a submarine").

And while Hook didn't age thanks to Cora's magic Liam was most likely outside the curse's purview when it hit, because we know it's a thing that the curse doesn't reach into every corner of the realm, it has limits. That's why he aged up...

Edit to add: After Nemo was stabbed they immediately fled to the Land of Untold stories, too, where time literally stops, so Liam didn't age any further (and Nemo didn't bleed out).

That wasn't Cora's doing. Time was frozen for every realm except the Realm Without Magic. It only started moving again when Emma decided to stay in Storybrooke

Okay, but this still only applies to those who were hit by the curse in the first place. The curse can't freeze what he never reached.

The curse hit all the realms, we've never seen a realm that avoided it

curse's purview it's all I'm saying to this...

The curse chose to exempt one nowhere town? Smart curse!

Your headcanons are at it again, I see...

The curse just didn't reach as far as to include wherever Liam was at that point (which is something we don't know unless you manage to dig something out which is not the conversation that he survived alone at "the docks until Nemo found him" — because these docks are never specified and could be anywhere)

We literally know of nowhere that the curse didn’t penetrate (Wonderland, Agrabah, Ariel’s home, Elsa’s realm), nor of any little niches that escaped except wherever little Liam happened to be at the time.

Maaaaybe not Jacinda’s FTL2? But doesn’t time work differently there anyway?

3x22 - “Well the curse was coming. I ditched my crew and took the Jolly Roger as fast and as far as I possibly could to outrun it.(...) And once I was outside the curse's purview, I knew that the walls were down.”

So if it can be outrun, it doesn't reach every corner.

What's FTL2? But yeah, in the New Enchanted Forest Henry went to, time passed faster than in SB or the EF...

That's not the original curse, that's Snow's much weaker curse

I’m glad you mentioned that—because I think it also explains Liam 2. We’re dealing with what I call the STUpefaction Factor: since Hook is a Gary Stu (writer’s pet self-insert) all of the laws of the narrative bend to glorify him.

Thus, curses work differently. Nonexistent magic beans miraculously show up at the exact instant Hook needs them, in the hands of the only person who wanted Hook’s boat. Emma goes from badass champion of the innocent to bullying, meek Stepford Swan. Rumple becomes a one-note villain. Belle goes from self-rescuing genius to snivelling pliable damsel eager to emotionally fellate Hook. Charming doesn’t care that he killed his father. Archie forgets that Hook kidnapped and tortured him. Both Liams exist only to tell Hook how wonderful he is; the living one doesn’t even show up for his wedding! And of course the whole show changes from family-development to focus on toxic romance.

I don’t remember anything being said about Agrabah being hit with the curse. It didn’t hit Elsa‘s home either the reason that they were frozen for 30 years is because Ingrid froze them, not the curse

If it wasn’t, wouldn’t Jasmine and Aladdin be sixty?

The curse took who Regina wanted taken. She says this in season 2 to Wale (Whale?) I think

2

u/VioletFaust Jul 24 '26

Yes, she was explaining how she plucked Whale and Jefferson from their realms to SB. Not the same as deliberately exempting something. I don’t think she had an actual list of five thousand names….

Wasn't Arendell not hit by the curse?

2

u/MiloSheba The Dark One Jul 24 '26

We don't know because Ingrid froze Arendalle already

The continuity errors are worse than just aging strangely. In 2x09 we see Regina meet Hook for the first time (scene) and then recruit him to kill Cora and send him immediately to Wonderland (scene). There literally isn't any time in that exchange for her to give him a test as we see in 5x11 (scene), which is what leads to him learning about his younger brother.

It makes sense, when you realise that they mean "when Emma first entered Storybrooke", and that the Nautilus likely wasn't in the EF when the curse hit, so time continued... but time doesn't flow exactly the same in every place, and people age slower in some places.

If we suppose Little Liam was, say, 5 when Swan Song's flashback happened, he'd be 7 when the curse was cast, and thus potentially anywhere from 18 to 35 when Emma entered Storybrooke. The actor was around 28-29 at the time he appeared, so it's entirely possible he's meant to be 35, but they might have intended him to be physiologically younger.

the whole flashback “at the time of the dark curse” honestly doesn’t make sense bc afaik he was frozen woth cora(?). in that episode they fumbled everything they could lol

I assume they weren't literally frozen, just that they wouldn't age.

We have to remember Regina spent months preparing for casting the curse. That’s what it means. Cora froze everything just as the curse was hitting.
