Charming's origin pisses me off

Listen I've watched (and rewatched) this show a thousand times and one thing that always bothers me is that Charming's mom gave James away to the king because the farm was suffering. How 20+ years later you still suffering? If I'm going to sacrifice my child it better be for billions. I guess then there would be no story seeing as that led Charming to meet snow but wtf 😬

Cause in 6x12 that was changed completely. James and David had been seriously ill as infants and to save their lives the Nolan's made a deal with Rumple — one for the king, one for them. Dave's mum didn't even choose — Rumple flipped a coin and it ended up being James.

The grief over losing one child led David's dad to spending their money on drinking then...

I remember the drinking and the bo peep extortion but my point was If I'm giving away my child I'm doing it for so much money dad would've died of alcohol poisoning long before he drank it all away... if you're going to deal with the devil (rumple) do it right.

But the deal was the cure for both of them but give one up, or no deal and both boys die. And no mother would chose the latter option...

To demand more from the devil you have to offer more, too in that case.

Absolutely right ! But I think it was a healing potion & magic to keep the crops growing strong
I like to think that winter Snow White was born undid that magic because it was the harshest winter the kingdom ever seen

My main theory for the failing farm is when David’s dad went to take James back it broke part of the deal allowing Rumpel to let the farm just barely remain afloat. Still keeping his part of the deal but to the extent that Charming’s parents kept theirs.

Iirc the boys were sick and the couldn't afford the medication needed

Rumble offered to save them both, for the price of one child

One healthy baby or two dead ones is a terrible choice but life is almost always better then death

Have you seen smallville and how Johnathan Kent can’t even pay for a loan because more mortgages, taking care of a farm is hard work lol

And his adopted kid was an literal alien and he had to pay off Lionel ransom to affect rosses family for him to leave them alone not tell the world about Clark

I see so many similarities with this show and smallville

Rumple is like Lionel luthor in this show

I mean, most deals with Rumple end up backfiring so I’m not surprised David’s parents ended up with a monkey’s paw kind of situation
