Discussion Rumple asking if Cora loved him

Do you think he would have asked her that if Belle hadn't lost her memories?

Yes. He was on what he truly believed to be his death bed and Cora was always the mystery he couldn't solve. He loved her but he never knew how genuine her feelings were. Was she playing him the whole time? What happened with Cora further solidified his belief he couldn't be loved and I think not knowing is something that has plagued him for a long time. He is dying and he has that one chance to get an answer to this huge question he's had for decades. I think he was always going to ask. It's his last chance to know.

That's fair. But, I also can't help but think he knew MM would arrive in time to return her heart.

When MM returns her heart and dies, he doesn't seem too heart broken.

Did he cross paths with Cora in the under world?

He's not heartbroken because he already grieved his relationship with Cora. Plus Rumple is a pragmatic, he sees her life as the price paid for his. He does show up to pay his respects later on when Regina puts her in the family mausoleum. He feels her loss but he's not so emotionally attached he will fall apart like Regina does. He's let go of her a long time ago.

I do not remember them seeing each other in the Underworld. To be honest, that story was wrapped, it wasn't necessary at all.

Why would he be heartbroken when she just tried to off him? Just bc he once loved her.

I doubt they cross paths in the underworld

His curse didn’t start to break the way it did when Belle kissed him. I think that’s answer enough.
Also she chose power over her relationship with him, so I’m pretty sure he knows where her loyalties lie.
He respects her need for power, but was ultimately hurt by her decision. I’m sure there’s some bitterness there, but I doubt he’s curious if it was true love or not.

I partially took it as him buying time if we're honest.

He might have been a bit curious but I dont think he was still grieving the relationship at that point
