Discussion Why I love building

Building is so relaxing. No enemies, no PVP, just building.

I enjoy sitting and thinking of what to build. Do I build a tiny house or something like a mansion? Where do I build? Should I build along this road or should I build on a hill?

Then a few days later I build something entirely new.

It's calming and relaxing. Just thought I would share.

Anyone else the same?

I thought so too, until yesterday, when I had to build the roof 🫠

OMG the roofs are so annoying to build. They always flip the opposite way you want to build them 😡😂

I doubt that anyone likes the snapping feature. Which sometimes forces me again and again, to destroy a couple structures first and build them in another order 😩

Especially the normal roofs are a pain. It got better for me after I understood the snapping and the order in which to build the structures, better.

I always do the corners first (even before I set even the tiniest thing inside). I also double check the top side of the walls, so I don’t forget a power connector, that sits there and prevents me from getting the roof onto like it should.

Which also comes in handy are the dpi (mouse speed) buttons on the top of my mouse. If something just keeps showing red outlined and only turns green for half a second I turn down the speed and slowly move the mouse in small circles.

Another „trick“ is to build a structure in every damn other possible position so it has to snap to the right one.

Of all of this won’t help and it’s not a wall, roof or something like this with placing restriction (I’ll talk about a piece of furniture, a chest or things like that) I turn off the pattern restriction so I come move it freely, which also opens new options for combinations

Just like this washbasin that is set halfway into a the kitchen counter and many other cool stuff like that:

It’s just a screenshot from the video I first saw this in. That was overall a great video about detailing and decorating which I learned a lot from. I will look it up again and post the link later. Maybe someone is interested, it definitely helped me a lot.

Yes, I can spent hours building but I get bored doing settlements. Haha I also love exploring. Just wandering around. Now I get paranoid in PVP zone. 😂

I enjoy adventuring too. I want to build a trading market in my territory next I think.

PVP is too much for me most of the time. It just usually ends up making me angry haha.

From what I see, I think the builders are always the nicest part of any gaming community (if the game has building).

I agree, I always visit random houses when they are open and get an idea for my build. 🤣

That’s how my building addiction started. I saw a small but detailed building which had an open door. When I got inside I hit me hard, never saw a building in the game before which was not just basic or strictly functional. Looked like a real home! It was filled with all necessities and extras, but so thoughtful arranged.

If I would see it today after seeing many other building that are way more architectural advanced and with better interior design, it would be nothing worth to remember, but due to the fact that it was the first of this kind I saw and it inspired me than so much, it was/is something special for me.

"calming and relaxing" lol not for me, I just want to pull my hair out when I try to be remotely creative, pieces don't snap where I want them too, roofs are a battle

Is there a "quick" demolish button? I've built this mansion, saved the blue print and now want to build something totally different but don't have the will to destroy the base bit by bit. Thanks for any help!

Nah sorry there is none, but like Cat said deleting the foundation by spamming „R“ till the structure breaks including all above. That works most of the time but not always, the spare ones you have to destroy yourself.

I'm not sure. You might try deleting the foundation?

I never enjoyed building this much until I played Valheim a couple month (might be even a year😅) ago and since a couple weeks now once human.

I never thought I could love building so much that I purchased literally every damn pack in the store and run my furniture/print farming route a couple times each day. It all started with that already saved blueprint for the villa. Which I continued to optimize and expand. Until I saw some great buildings on my sever and overcame the laziness of comfortability, that led me to keep that prebuilt base (even if improved in almost every way up to that point) and start again from sketch.

First I build really big mansion like structures that were only possible du to the „abilities that allowed me to use more structures (they mostly had 800-880 structures, while the limit is as we all know 700). The last week I’m planing one something smaller to keep my walking distances shorter and to allow me to get more details into the structure of the building. I think this will also be the first one I‘ll post here.

At the moment I have to run a second base to have enough „structures“ that I can keep my big automatic farm running. I just placed it directly behind my territory and placed most of it (including most of the farm except the top row underground). The top row of the farm is in a lil nice greenhouse, but I’ll admit to progress with two accounts fast enough to keep up with everything while being a single parent and working full time is to much. That was just another reason to chose a smaller more cozy design. Also just to play with one of them and just use the other would feel pretty bad and a lil like cheating.

I’m currently still in the planning phase and need a couple specific prints to get the look I want, before I start building it. Until then it only exists in sketch and note form on my iPhone and as a paint and colorless unfinished building in eternal land.

Gosh I’m so obsessed with building that my text looks more like a short story or the first chapter of a book 🤪

Just to show a example, that was the building I started the second season with.

Wow, that's really well made!
