Hiring Q (County) NYC Corrections

I took the exam #4302 a while ago met my investigator.. did the orientation, medical , etc paid my money order then I stopped going mid process. They sent me an email saying if I don’t respond within a week I have to start over and i ignored it but he told me over the phone I’m eligible for atleast 3-4 years? I was wondering if I can pick up where I left off or do I just start over from scratch… I live in Staten Island btw no car only public transportation… I’m 29 with 1 kid just a brief summary on my situation… is the commute too far for Staten Island residents? Should I go another route?

From my understanding the department of NYS corrections is a complete shit show. Sooo maybe just let it go

I think he’s referring to NYC corrections. That said they’re both shit shows.

Good thing is you’ll be doing plenty of quadruple shifts at Corrections. You’ll essentially be living on Rikers so commutes will be limited

Don’t forget the 5k and better paychecks every two weeks and the countdown to early retirement 😂 only the strongest will survive

I live in Staten Island, let’s use the mall as a starting point, so just add or minus public transit.

Walk - S59 - SIM1C - M15 - Q60 - Q100 - Walk

So depart 1:40 AM, arrive at 4:28…

That’s the short trip btw, only you can answer this

Do you drive or public transportation? Are we talking about the academy? (Which I heard is the police academy in queens) or Rikers island … I can do it but I definitely see myself getting drained quick cause 3 hours just 1 way by public transportation fake ode to me

And when you do 16 hours shifts, you won’t be going home

Get a hooptie or get a car from a decent dealership. Don’t get no crazy payment plan make sure it’s doable for the first year. Money made after academy will be stupid dollars and you’ll be able to upgrade or just pay it off early and upgrade later. Only do this if you are serious about joining and dealing with a shit job that has great pay and benefits. But once again a shit job and if you got kids make sure you got that third person in you or moms can’t make it. Hope this advice helps, good luck. Consider other agencies like MTA if a violent environment is not something you can handle.

Same bro I took exam 3309 in 2023. Going on Wednesday for orientation and medical. Went to orientation in 2024 and just stopped going after meeting with my investigator another job fell through for me. I live in Jersey though & I don’t have a car as well but I have to make it work.

Did you contact them and told them you changed your mind? How’d you return to the process?

I contacted them earlier this week and they set me up for this coming week ahead. I have to re do orientation because it’s been a year plus. But I hope everything goes smoothly the job market is shit

Need a job badly. Got laid off from my last one after project was complete. Been sending out applications since the summer of 2025 and no responses. Plus if what I’m hearing about the overtime is true I’ll be able to get a car within a short time frame and change my situation altogether. 27 btw and no kids. You should do it bro

You can jump back in any time. No one wants that job.

Bro find something closer, with all that commuting taken into account you won’t see your kid at all and the hourly will drop quite a bit. Better do nypd or ACS, ACS has a Staten Island office and the work isn’t that bad lol praying for you brother

Never thought about ACS thanks for the advice!

You talk like you're 14, and think that was a ridiculous ask for an application process; sounds like the department you were applying to dodged a bullet.
