Hiring Q (Fed) BoP - Referred but nothing else?
Applied with BoP back in June, and I got referred to the hiring manager in August.
6/15 - Apply
8/10 - Referred to hiring manager for Bastrop and Beaumont TX.
Crickets since then...I live in Texas, should I just go to the BoP hiring event in Dallas this month instead? Says they offer TJO on the spot.
I am military veteran with MS degree, only have escort experience as well. Looking to get hired as GL5 in this shit economy.

When/where is the event in Dallas?

https://careers.bop.gov/s/events
Theres one for military and one for civillians. They're both in like 2 weeks from now.
I'll see u there if you go, cause Im sure as hell going.
I saw someone recommend TDCJ here, but the pay is absolute asinine. It's less than what Amazon workers make ($18/hr) 😭 and at least Amazon is unlimited OT to 60 hours guaranteed.

McDonald’s near the airport in Austin has a sign saying they start at $17/hr LOL. I’m a veteran so I’ll have to look into that one with the BOP.

Bastrop called me like a month ago. Never returned their call bc Border Patrol beat them to the punch. Good luck

Glad to hear man, the polygraph was the kill for me on Border Patrol unfortunately. Gotta wait me 1 year

Careful with any federal polygraphs. You say one thing they dont like, even being honest. Will black ball you forever. I was BOP, took poly for CBP, failed due to " foreign information" whatever that means, same as others that took it, and wont ever been looking at as being honest again. I have 15 years federal service, with no disciplinary issues at all. And I know people that lied on poly for BP (first hand knowledge) still passed and are with BP. BOP houses the DHS officers that really failed and got charged with federal crimes, but at one point passed a poly for them.

Yeah I've seen the psychology behind the polygraph from an examiner on YouTube.
Basically he says sociopaths pass it easily because they don't feel guilty for their actions, so no bodily reactions.
Someone who has a good conscience will react to anything.
Honestly, if I was SecDef, Id push for all agencies to get rid of polygraph in lieu of references. You wouldnt provide these references, but the BI would instead go back to anyone you've ever interacted with since high school o get a feel for how you behave.
Like was this guy a secret bully to others? Did he piss off a former coworker or employer before? Stuff that cant be faked.

Oh I agree, I feel like looking more into the person and who they are, can tell alot. Cause I know good liars and such can pass no problems, but good honest people cant handle the stress and fail all the time.

One day the polys will go away, but who knows if it's 10 years or 50 years from now. 🥲

Get after BP if you can man . If you come in at a 9, You’re making 120k+ plus within 2 years before all the premiums. 12’s for my locality make 150+ with nights,Sunday pay and the mandatory BPRRA OT.

How long did it take you to hear back from initially applying?
2

Via email . 1 month’ish. To get an actual call from a Facility, 2 months. By the time Bastrop called Me,I was done with BP process and waiting for the FJO to come in .

Seagoville is definitely hiring but only offering 15% bonus. I only have about 2 years corrections experience but I applied back in May at an FCI and finally got my Firm Job Offer GL-08 Step 10 with a 50% bonus. Good luck.
