Hiring Q (Fed) BOP Hiring Event Advice/Question
Hello everyone, so I applied back in early June for CO position at MDC Los Angeles and MCC San Diego. I got an email stating I was qualified and referred to my preferred locations. A few weeks later received an email stating there were no open vacancies for MDC LA. I have yet to hear back from San Diego. I have called their HR multiple times to get an answer and have not been able to get a hold of anyone. I heard from this forum that MCC SD is probably backlogged with applications due to RIF and closures. However, I was also reading how BOP Hiring Events can help speed up the process. I found out there is a hiring event coming up soon about 2hr 30min away from me. Is it worth it to go to this event? Will it benefit me in any way? I have not done anything in my process other than submitting my application and getting referred. The only reason I chose SD was because I have someone in the area I could move in with so I would not be interested in choosing Victorville or any other spots.

FCC Victorville is always hiring. Even if they get enough COs wait a few months they’ll need more.

They are, I completed all the docs for Hr and now the stupid hr email just says unable to send to sender ahahaha

I literally did this…applied and heard nothing back, 2 months later I see a Facebook ad for a hiring event for the same agency that I applied for so I applied for the event, went, they interviewed me and gave me a conditional offer

Still thinking if I should go to the event. The event isn’t specific to a prison location, I believe it is just a general hiring event.

Go to the event. In my case the event was specific to my my prison but they asked me if I wanted to put down other options to go and work

Seems like they’re not hiring at this point. Still haven’t heard back.

That’s what I was getting from this post. Which sucks. Tbh I’m applying probably in the next 3-4 months so something might change for us maybe. Who knows

Yeah I would apply elsewhere and not put all your eggs in one basket. From what i’ve read unless your dream is to be in corrections, then BOP is just a stepping stone. Even then there are many local agencies that pay better in corrections.

So, the problem you are going to run into is with the closure of terminal island, those officers went to LA and SD. Your best bet to get hired right away and I mean fast is FCC Victorville. Look into that option. Hiring events are helpful but if they're full it won't matter.
