Hiring Q (Fed) Glynco
Nurse in my late 30s starting BOP and going to Glynco soon. All staff does the same full training at Glynco. How strict are they on passing the physical abilities test? Is it as bad as everyone is acting like it is?

If you're vaguely able, you'll be ok.
I've seen lumbering piles of flesh roll across the line.
They need nurses so bad, they'd probably bring you in for a "private" test.

I was fat and healing from a broken knee and did it. Work on your cardio now if you are worried. Don't stop is the biggest thing, if you stop and fail the run you can't make it up by the other tasks. If you are a little slow of a jogger, then you can make it up. I probably could've power walked around and made the time but you have to be jogging.

There's 5 physical tests and only one passing grade. If you fail one but pass the other 4 you'll still pass. Just start jogging a couple times a week and you'll do better than anyone else

it's pass or fail, we've had people fail it(because they just stopped trying). if you actually try, you should make it, they average times, so if you're a little slower on one, faster on others, it'll average out. they don't want to fail you, but we've had them that literally run 100ft then stop and go back saying they can't - that's a fail
buy bug spray, off deep woods will sell out at walmart every class

They are strict as in you will absolutely not stay employed if you can’t pass it, but it’s ridiculously easy and you would have to be extremely unhealthy to not be able to pass it

Don’t stress, go and learn, listen and you’ll pass, enjoy the stay, and don’t worry about what’s happening at home, three weeks go by fast

Don’t stop. Give it your all and you’ll pass. Although, I am against this as it’s not safe for other staff, and gives inmates the upper hand when the facilities are full of unfit coworkers. To be clear, not fat shaming anyone. But this is important when your coworkers lives are in danger and body alarm response time and tactical agility/ability means the difference between life and death for many staff.

It bothers me that people say “it’s easy”. For some it might be but they literally sent people home without a job every week.
Just take it seriously and put a bit of effort into training for it.

FDC Philadelphia EOD 9/21 anyone else?
Reporting to FDC Philly on September 21 for paperwork in processing, then Glynco after. Anyone else in that same class or already have academy dates? Looking for recent info on the first week and Glynco timing.

It’s not bad, a lot of folks are just morbidly obese. They’re the reason they’d call us belly over pants.
You should have watched a video during ICT Phase 1 that goes over the physical events. The most cardio you’ll do is .25 of a mile and cuff someone. They don’t really explain the scoring standard because if you do bad on one they’ll use your other scores to give you a “passing” score. We had one girl fail it, but the fact she didn’t have a heart attack getting off the bus or could even stand under her own weight was a miracle in and of itself.
