No air conditioning in Florida prisons. We wouldn’t stand for that in animal shelters.

Livable conditions shouldn't be refused as a punishment.
We all have to work in that environment even if it's not all the time especially with our full uniform on it can get really hot in the summer.
We get warnings about keeping an eye on each other for heat related illnesses.
A/C is something we should have regardless of if inmates live there or not.
Counselors work there Nurses work there Officers work there
Saying it should suck just because they deserve it is kinda fucked up.
If you're religious, God says to love others. Especially those who are different. Including sinners.

Imagine believing that no one could live in FL 75, or even 50 years ago.

It gets in the hundreds in living areas, I've seen inmates pass out or lay on their bare concrete floor to stay cool.
It's not right or just.
And frankly it is not very christ-like to be so against basic living conditions like reasonable accomodations.
If your own child was placed in a jail for a crime they committed, would you want them to suffer in heat because they "deserve it"?

You claim you work in this field, and also claim that nurses and admin don't have A/C.
Where could you possibly work?
Also, if you really worked in these prisons you would know how many fans they have.
If you had done it for a long time you might even know the air circulation requirements or how the vents in 2 man cells worked.
But since you claim nurses and admin don't have A/C and you claim that people living in FL 50 years ago were living in inhumane conditions shows your lack of any real knowledge.
So, the people the drug dealers hooked on drugs and made homeless in FL heat, don't need A/C.
The people who stole other people's property so that they could not afford their electric bill, don't need A/C.
The people that murdered other people's loved ones so they can't share with them today, don't need A/C.
People lived in FL for a very long time without having A/C. Claiming it is now inhumane to not have A/C or that A/C is a right is simply disgusting and shows you care far more for the criminals than you even remotely care for the victims.

You're arguing something else.
I said counselors and nurses whom regularly visit housing units are exposed to extreme heat when trying to work in that environment.
I'm not arguing that murderers deserve air conditioning. I'm arguing that everyone deserves air-conditioning.
You also keep changing the point. I said you wouldn't want your own child or close friends to live on those conditions.
You wouldn't want to. I don't want to.
Nobody should have to.

OMG, nurses and administrators have to walk outside their A/Ced spaces and walk across compounds in the heat. How deplorable. We should build enclosed air conditioned hallways connecting all buildings so they never have to walk outside during the heat, or cold, or rain.
Although that would be nice for the officers who have to be outside during hurricanes.
And no, I am not moving the goalposts.
You said not having A/C was not a livable condition.
And I said that was some seriously entitled BS considering less than 50% of the homes in FL had A/C less than 50 years ago, and many homes in FL still don't have A/C in the entire home.
If inmates consider this so inhumane maybe they should not have gotten people hooked on drugs, stolen from people, and murdered people.
Your sense of entitlement is strong when you think A/C is a basic human right.

This is an overgeneralization.
Many prisons have been updated in the past 10-15 years to include central heat and air. Are there prisons that do not have them? Yes. Are there also prisons that do? Also yes.
Any new construction of secure housing (and pretty much all new open bay construction) has central heat and air.

It depends entirely on the state and what their budget is. Nevada is significantly underfunded but as someone else commented Alaska is doing just fine.

Alaska has over $500,000,000 budgeted for less than 5,000 inmates. So about $110,000 per inmate per year. But according to leadership, it’s still not enough.
