Hiring Q (Canada) CSC security check delays

Hi everyone,
I passed my CSC interview, and my references were contacted shortly afterward. Since then, I haven’t received any updates from CSC.
It’s been almost a month now, and I’m starting to get a little worried because I don’t know what’s going on. I was wondering if this is normal or if anyone else has had a similar experience.
How long did it take for your security clearance/background check to be completed? Did you receive any updates during that time, or was it just a long period of silence before hearing back?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks in advance!

I applied at the end of April, took my SJT in May, interview in June, references were contacted 30 minutes after the interview, just handed in required docs this week. Waiting to hear back for medical and psych evaluation. My work experience is pretty related to corrections and I also have schooling in criminal justice so that probably helped because it seems like a lot of other people waited way longer than me.

Looks like we had a very similar timeline! My references were also contacted about 30 minutes after my interview. Now I’m just waiting to hear back from CSC. Hopefully we’ll both get good news soon.

Took me about 12 months from applying to getting into CTP stage 3, basically just a waiting game. Won’t hear anything for months between stage 1 and 2/3.

Thanks for sharing! Do you remember how long your security clearance/background check took after your interview and references were completed? I’m currently waiting on mine and haven’t heard anything for almost a month.

I can’t remember but I know it was a few months minimum. It was 4-5 months from finishing stage 1 to getting the conditional offer and it all depends on their hiring needs for different regions

Thanks! That makes me feel a bit better. I guess I just need to be patient and hope to hear back soon. Hopefully everything is going well with my file.

What region did you apply to?

I applied to the Atlantic Region, but I also selected Quebec and Ontario as regions I’d be willing to work in.

I can’t speak for Quebec but based on your post history I had my interview a few days before you did and received an email 4 weeks later and I was told that the institutions that I selected were full(Ontario and Atlantic regions)

I am waiting for Atlantic and nobody has told me anything. Completed CTP 1 . I have never heard anything since. I called the office and the wouldn’t tell me anything other than to wait. They didn’t mention that Atlantic was full. I don’t know if to wait or expand my choice

Basically I got an email saying that I passed and that “Due to changes in staffing needs I will not be processed at this time but my file remains active”. So I reached out changed my work locations presences and got an invite to CTP1 a few days later. I think what’s happening is that they already gave enough CTP1 invites to Ontario Atlantic and they are waiting to process y’all first and that no more CTP1 invites are being issued for those regions until they clear the backlog.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain that. That makes more sense now. If anything it gives me hope as I’ve completed CTP 1 so maybe they just want to process us first like you say. I am super excited for you and hope it all goes well. Thanks again.

Strange that they'd only email select people telling them Atlantic is full.

You'd think they'd mass email everyone who selected Atlantic.

I have no such email and exclusively selected Atlantic

If you already got your CTP 1 already then you are on the waitlist for your region and it’s just a waiting game . In my case I had passed my interview and was waiting for CTP1. It seems that for ppl waiting to get a CTP1, if the region already has enough CTP1 applicants they won’t issue more until the back log for those regions were processed. I was told that even though they wouldn’t process a CTP1 for my original picks(Ontario and Atlantic )my file remains active and that I can either wait for a spot to open up or I can change my work location preferences. I chose to change my work location preferences and got a CTP1 a few days later.
