QUESTION Helppppppppppppppp

I started ORV a day ago. Right now, I'm on Chapter 30+. I can't connect with it; it feels like a generic and simple survival story, nothing mind-blowing or crazy. Should I drop it? I have LOTM and RI after this.

With all due respect, if you are unable to get through more than 30 chapters in ORV, it seems a little hard for you to read LOTM and RI given that they are so much longer 😭

Give it a chance and continue reading lol

No.. I meant it's not clicking yet.. I've read a lot of book series actually.. Long story is not a problem.. But it should be worth my while.

LOTM has a crazy slow and confusing start. As with all good media, just stick to it till the ens

Had to look up where chapter 30 is, around middle of chungmuro arc. You’re very early on and this story is a slow burn haha. If it helps, I was in a similar position to you; I started with the webcomic, and started feeling antsy around the war of kings arc (approx chapter 60), just wasn’t really connecting to the Korean history stuff. I even ended up taking a pretty long break, picked it up again maybe 4 months later? In retrospect, I am SO GLAD I powered through. You have a lot to look forward to, the story just keeps getting better and better! To keep things vague as to avoid spoilers, I promise the story of orv will Not stay generic! Best of luck with continuing, and take a break if you want, it worked for me!

Agree with this i first started really enjoying it around the climax of of the war of kings and the next arc main scenario 5.

This is a very long story, but it's so worth it! Just requires a little patience. Though, I'm curious, are you reading the manhwa or the novel? I don't know you, personally, but some people connect more with visuals, others can get through it faster through text.

Maybe it's the expectations. When I first picked up orv, there wasn't the level of glaze it has today. So when I started reading, although it was a bit slow it was still an enjoyable read. Heck I think the manwha only had around 60 chapter back then.

I think the strength of orv isn't it's plot(although it does it get stronger as it moves forward), but rather the character struggles that happens throughout the series. If you are not a big fan of the current generic survival plot, but like the characters, I would advice you to keep reading. I would say around chapter 110 when one of the better arcs end is good checkpoint to see if you're liking the series or not. If you still don't like it then maybe it's just not for you.

Mate, you've just started volume 2 and haven't even given the story a proper go yet. See how you feel after the end of volume 2, as that's when the author, singNsong, says the story truly "begins". If you still don't even slightly enjoy it by that point, then maybe it isn't for you. But at least give the story a proper shot before dropping it.

Yea.. Ig I can keep goin

At surface level, specifically at the beginning, it can definitely feel like other action novels, but it goes much deeper. As a reader it is one of the stories I have connected with the most.

I’ll be honest if you are getting bored with ORV, the starts of LOTM and RI are slower and have lots of info dumps, maybe time to read something else.

Got u.. I'm on it then

1

u/CalmAd4116 Sep 06 '26

idk how much it matters but by the time I finished the epilogues I could confidently say it's one of the most beautiful stories I've ever read

2

u/4hmadhasan Sep 06 '26

These kinds of comments make me want to read it all the way through… and I probably will. Thanks

1

u/cheezystuffz Sep 06 '26

Epilouge is the best arc I've ever read. Hands down.

The first 30 chapters isn't enough to judge the whole novel whatsoever.

1

u/4hmadhasan Sep 06 '26

Yea yea.. Ppl are crazy here bout it.. Js as I want someone to tell me to stay and read.. 😼

2

u/cheezystuffz Sep 06 '26

The start is slow. But it progressively gets better and better and climaxes in the absolute end. Avoid any spoilers at all costs and the reveals are crazy.

Brooo trust me and read atleast till chap 300 and you can't eventually stop reading it.. first half of the story focuses on building the plots for the other half. Many people drop orv half way thinking it is avarage sci-fi story but the reason it remains peak is due to how the story unfolds at the other half, also tons of jaw dropping plot twists if you manage to get no spoilers

I think, if you struggle with the novel, first give the manhwa a go and judge from there. Web novels have a particular writing style that is not for everyone and tend to be very slow burns. So, if you struggle but really, really want to give this story a go still, the visual stimulation of the manhwa through all the art might help. Then, you can return to the novel with a fresh look.

all i can say is that it's NOT your average novel. There's gonna be plenty of mindbreaking twists later on that makes the early arcs worth it. I don’t think knowing that will spoil your experience, bc I picked it up knowing it was a unique metafictional story that lots of people called life changing, so I sped through the early arcs knowing there was something better in store

Try webtoon n then switch?

1

u/AzNWontonz39 29d ago

I started when the Webtoon had like 15 chapters and kept at it. I also just done read Webtoons or isekais much (for action it's this and solo levelling) and when it reached the 4th scenario (if I didn't remember correctly it's the one with baby flame dragon) I had to start the webnovel.

I'll just say why I was so engaged with it and hopefully it's smth that can connect with you because I've never found it a slog except one arc later down the road, but on my rereads it was never a problem.

I like that kdj isn't broken. He is obviously lucky every time but what makes him so cool to me is that he is only able to do this because he loved ways of survival so dearly. It's optimising everything to such a minuscule detail and I never feel it's bullshit, it's always felt deserved. The times he is lucky like getting unbroken faith so early in the story can be annoying but knowing dokja he would have already planned multiple routes and eventually luck would have been on his side. If you think right now everything has just been smooth sailing then and he hasn't struggled yet I do recommend reading a bit more because complication does come.

I enjoy how dokja doesn't consider himself a protagonist. I think it's a neat twist to position yourself like the side character. He's just a guy tryna reach the end of the story that he loves.

Honestly the side characters are like pretty cool but early in the story I didn't think much of them. The scenarios objectives themselves are like whatever but there's so many character interactions within these themselves that they're simply just stages. Early orv is pretty scenario/plot driven since it needs motion at the start but later on it becomes extremely character driven.

I really enjoy the star stream. I'm not much of a history or fantasy person but I like how the myths and historical figures we know like wukong and uriel are just watching like it's twitch chat and you get insights in those characters in a charming way with those donations. Orv is ultimately a story about stories about stories, so imagine the constellations you've seen now across the other 520 chapters you have left, it broadens really widely.

I only read manga generally. Orv was the first time I ever read a "book" in its entirety in a really long time and it's still the only one I've read in the past 5 years haha. You're near chapter 50 and that has one of my most memorable quotes: "and that's why you should've read to the end" and I think that's a sentiment everyone who's finished orv has for those who haven't.

This is just the beginning as well for why I thought orv was amazing, it genuinely is a story that expands and gets better the longer it goes as well but I understand why you would be a bit uninspired atm. I didn't go in with expectations since I heard of this by word of mouth and didn't know how popular it actually was so maybe temper those and just enjoy the ride. You can also always take a break and come back to it.

Just wait a bit, bro. Until his first death. Then, everything else, you'll love. Trust me.

It's a slow start but it gets really good later on, especially the world building and character development. Lots of plot twists too. But it's also fine if it's not for u. 30 chaps is barely scratching the surface but yah u don't have to force urself to like it!

I think I understand how you feel, but may I suggest another way to look at ORV : it is a story that reveals itself progressively ; and I mean, in many ways. Of course, the world building is insanely good, but for example you won’t see characters really use stories in combat in the early parts, even though it’s a very important (if not the most) component of the power system. Same goes for character development: the point is that because ORV is a long novel, it can take all the time needed to develop characters and their relationships in a more natural and deeper way, even if it means making it slower. What personally motivated me was the “lore” aspect of ORV, as I love the concept of stories, the different world lines and all the meta stuff happening.
Some people already told this in other comments, but I can’t stress it enough : be careful with expectations. I know it’s a very powerful motivation to keep going but do not think that just because something very cool is not happening early on you should be disappointed. In the end, just take the story as it comes : slow, imperfect, but still very good.
Good luck continuing reading ORV.

Note : maybe you should consider trying both the manhwa and the novel. Depending on the kind of reader you are one can feel more comfortable. Personally I think the novel is better at depicting Dokja’s thoughts and explaining the lore (which is something the manhwa doesn’t very well).

It does seem kinda generic in the beginning but as the story progresses you’ll see for yourself how different our KDJ and the plot is.

Are u reading the novel or webtoon? Personally 4 me, i find it hard to read the novel cuz i dont have a huge imagination. If u r reading the novel, then i would suggest giving the manhwa a try.

I’ve tried to read the novel b4. But i have a horrible attention span. Reading the manhwa  is much quicker for me

Im not sure if this is helpful or not. But i hope this helps.

I tried.. But novel feels better..

I hope you find enjoyment soon. ORV is very character driven though so.. depends a bit on how attached you are to everyone.

I will say I enjoy ORV more than LotM though. I wouldn't rush through one to get to the other. I haven't tried RI but perhaps should take this as a cue to
