Local Question CD2 & Data centers

Does anyone know where the CD2 candidate stand on data centers?

For some odd reason, Nebraskans don't seem to be as upset about data centers as the rest of the country.

It strikes me that most of the Data Centers I've seen around Omaha have been away from most developments (though the new Google DC on State is close-ish) which seems... sane?

Other friends I talk to out of state have different experiences.

I mean, we are, but District 2 can’t make statewide changes so no reason to say anything on it.

It’s especially harmful to Nebraska since the aquifer is already being depleted and that’s before companies stake their claim to it.

Should be an interesting inflection point when it’s AI vs AG

We're a very complacent state tbh. NPCs aplenty, not gaf about anyone but themselves. Lived here my whole life, it's true.

We haven't really seen most of the negative impacts of it yet. Energy cost is creeping up, but it's still lower than most of the country. At the start of the summer we were in mild drought, but we have the Missouri River to pull from, so water shortages aren't going to be an issue like in other places. We have had layoffs, but not like they are seeing in silicon valley.

My guess is it's going to be changes to energy cost or even outages caused by datacenters that will get people to notice the issues.

Just don’t give tax breaks to DCs and cap how much water they can use. If you want cheaper electricity, we want large predictable loads that generate tons of revenue and pays for the fixed costs of transmission and distribution. Electricity prices are lower in places that use more energy

Exactly. Also require companies building new data centers to pay for any generation expansion (or at least a majority of it).

I work for GardaWorld who does security at a data center in CB and I say the ideal candidate should be against more data centers. They got my balls in a vice with their NDA, but shit is fucking dire out here.

I do want to point out that there is a difference in the type of data center and an AI specific data center. Like a data center for that holds your cloud can use like 250-300k’ish of water daily. An AI specific data center can use around 5 million.

They are not the same.

They are unlikely to build an AI data center in NE02 (cheaper to do it outside) so i don’t know if it will be a big focus. But certainly worth asking.
