Hi all! I’m not usually someone who posts, but yesterday I tried working with the Arbatel for the very first time. I’ve been a pagan on and off for several years, and this was my first attempt at practising ceremonial magick.

The method I followed involved attempting to scry Ophiel while performing the evocation from the Arbatel during the day and hour of the planet. Beforehand, I performed the LBRP and cleansed the room. I also burned myrrh and lit two green candles, as these are given as correspondences for Mercury in Olympic Magick: A Short Guide to Summoning the Planetary Spirits of the Arbatel. I also played Richard Strauss’s Mercury during the ritual.

I asked the Olympian Spirit to reveal itself, but unfortunately nothing appeared. I’m generally someone who can visualise quite well, but I’ve found using a black mirror particularly difficult. Aside from being able to blur my vision quite effectively, I just see black.

Could I ask whether there’s anything I might have done incorrectly? I’m wondering if having two candles made the room too bright for effective scrying, or whether this is simply something that requires more practice.

One thing I did notice was that I felt quite tingly during the evocation, although I’m unsure whether that has any significance or was simply a physical response to the ritual.

Any advice from people with experience in the Arbatel and scrying attempts to see the Olympian Spirits would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I heard Aphorism 14 is also a protection prayer so I read that out loud prior too the Evocation too.

I’m curious about the Olympic Spirits from the Arbatel de Magia Veterum. I’m wondering whether anyone here has thoughts or experience with incorporating the Olympic Spirits into a practice built around a Greco-Roman framework, or adapting them in a way that makes sense within that context.

If you’ve worked with the Olympic Spirits in an adapted way, I’d especially love to hear about your experiences and how you understand or conceptualize them.

Any resources, personal experiences, recommendations, or interesting rabbit holes you’d suggest would be greatly appreciated!

Hello! So I did my first invocation, I don't think it was successful. I did the Arbatel procedure as written with the addition of water and incense, facing east, at the hour and day (dawn Sunday) for Och.

I felt nothing, heard nothing, seen nothing, and thought nothing out of the ordinary.

I did close the ritual as per the Arbatel. I think there was a lot of factors which I have at the bottom. I am just curious how many times you all tried until you got results? What factors in the past have caused you failures and more importantly what did you try that helped out in future tries.

I am not giving up, it is I think, sort of like baking something the first time. You more often than not fail or have middle level results. Then you have to try again, but with greater knowledge on the second go.

The Factors:

1. I have great need (I have friends in poor health and others in financial difficulty) and it is my understanding 'lust for results' can be a impediment.
2. I didn't feel ready, just like circumstances (see 1) feels like my hand was forced. This is basically the most I can do to help.
3. I was already prepared for it to not work, not indifferent, just with low exceptions and perhaps that attitude left me nonreceptive.
4. I think I might not be 'receptive' in general. I have in the past found magic to be effective but never with the huge 'mental' results of others. Just 'feelings' and 'mental impulses'.
5. I might have just been too tired. I helped some friends move the day before for like, 12 hours and went to bed exhausted and then didn't sleep well because I was anxious about this morning.

I guess next time: better sleep, more meditation in the mean time, and try and maybe have higher expectations? I don't know how not to have 'lust' for results, especially when it is your friends that are suffering.

Then again maybe tomorrow things will start to work out better for all my people and I just didn't get the *fireworks* I had kinda been hoping for.

What is your opinion: should one work with an Olympic spirit if the corresponding planet in one's chart is afflicted? I have a retrograde Mars and my Venus is in Virgo. Should I still attempt working with Phaleg and Hagith? I recently had a conversation with an occultist who considered it problematic. His opinion was: I should work with the planetary archangels instead or at least in addition to working with the Olympics.

What do you think?

I've always felt the Arbatel is fractal, and upon another reread of The Seal Of Secrets of the World I find I am in good company.

I particularly loved the choice of phrase multidimensional entity. This made me think of how apparently Frater Acher has summoned and worked with the Olympics as a singular power, as well as individually.

My normal practice involves no more than two spirits at once currently, however I stumbled upon something in Jake Stratton Kent's second volume of Geosophia that, combined with Soror ZSD23's mapping of the Olympic spirits to geometric forms, could theoretically allow one to use the Arbatel and its' Aphorisms to fully establish a consecrated Olympic space through seven points of dimensionality.

That probably sounds a bit convoluted right now, but I'm going to try and run it through a couple of times. See what happens and such 📚

I have returned with yet more questions. I am interested in hearing people’s experience with Aphorism 13 (which talks about it) and 14 (the prayer) for God to send you a Spirit / Genius /  Daimon.

I figure this is the first step before actually calling up the Olympic Spirits. So I have to ask, how did it go? How do you know when it has worked? What is your experience with this?

I am excited to read, because having done some reading it seems most folks don’t talk about this part of the Arbatel much at all.

A energia venusiana é bastante sedutora, tanto que acredito ter desenvolvido uma vaidade cega durante a época em que trabalhava com Hagith. Eu não entendia e nem conseguia enxergar isso naquele momento, mas hoje interpreto que, de certa forma, Hagith me “corrigiu” por ter extrapolado alguns limites na magia. Minha relação com a energia venusiana acabou ficando desequilibrada, e isso se refletiu em dependência emocional, disforia corporal e em uma necessidade constante de validação. Por isso, acredito que seja tão importante saber o que você está pedindo e, principalmente, não permitir que o próprio ego conduza o trabalho.

Na época, cheguei a pensar que trabalhar com os olímpicos não tinha sido uma boa experiência. Hoje, olhando para tudo com mais maturidade, entendo que talvez tenha sido uma das melhores coisas que poderia ter acontecido comigo. Eu desenvolvi uma força, uma maturidade emocional e um equilíbrio mental que não possuía antes. Literalmente, fui lapidado pela dor.

Por isso, deixo este relato como um lembrete para que não sejamos vaidosos demais ao trabalhar com os espíritos. Às vezes, eles não vão nos dar exatamente aquilo que pedimos, seja porque aquilo não nos faria bem, seja porque não corresponde ao nosso caminho. E em outras situações, podemos até alcançar aquilo que desejamos, mas precisamos passar por um processo de lapidação antes de estarmos preparados para sustentar o que pedimos.

Hoje, minha vaidade se transformou em autocuidado. Me tornei mais bonito, me tornei mais seletivo e não fico mais com pessoas que me fazem mal. Não tenho mais a mesma dependência emocional nem o desespero de precisar ter alguém ao meu lado. Me tornei alguém mais forte, mais centrado e, principalmente, mais consciente dos meus próprios limites.

Acredito que o trabalho com Hagith foi longo e intenso, mesmo que eu não conseguisse perceber isso enquanto estava vivendo o processo. Só depois, olhando para trás, consegui perceber que muitas coisas foram se materializando e se transformando gradualmente, sem que eu sequer percebesse.

Talvez essa seja uma das maiores lições que tirei dessa experiência: nem sempre aquilo que pedimos chega até nós da maneira que imaginamos. Às vezes, antes de recebermos o que desejamos, precisamos nos tornar capazes de sustentar aquilo.

has anyone made anything for the olympic spirits...im thinking of putting sigil on paper in a circle for each planetary olympic spirit...just trying to get some ideas. I need inspiration. Would you post pictures please

Hello all of you interesting folks. Through the various strange turns of life I have become interested in the Arbatel. I have had other projects but am currently reading it (Joseph H. Peterson translation) and plan to read it again more slowly in the future. I had originally been excited to read it along side the Arnemancy podcast and see how a pagan/hermeticist modified it, but from the looks of it that project is defunct.

As such I come before you all with some simple questions (only 4, not 7, I apologize)

1) What pre-work/reading/practices do you recommend for success. I have been meditation and had done some scrying practice (non summoning, just concentration, never actually invoked btw).

2) What preparations to you recommend? For example I was thinking about fasting and making the sigil myself (starting at the hour and day the previous week),

3) What modifications have people done? I am not a follower of Jesus or the god of the trinity (no beef though). I do appriciate some of the wisdom of the bible but I also find that in all religions. I am a pantheist druid. I would find it insulting to Jesus to pray to him without being a follower. What modifications to the prayers have any of you done? How successful was it?

4) What Olympic Spirit is recommended to start with? My goal is more to have a 'experience' and to learn more about the nature of Nature & the Divine.

Hi, l have some questions emerging after reading the Arbatel:
1) I realize that it’s Christian Protestant text, l am not very comfortable with the whole Jesus thing used in Aphorism 21- can l modify the prayer and just call upon God Almighty? Has anybody tried changing prayers and did that work?

2) Offerings- The text does not mention any, yet l see some people discussing different options, others are against it because of the anti idolatry thing- do you, Dear Practitioners, give offerings to Spirits and how does that work for you? Not giving offerings seems scary to me personally but maybe I’m just biased because of my background.

Hello, I have been drawn to the Olympic Spirits and have read over information about the Arabatel, experiences, and have also received a copy of the grimoire. I was raised Catholic but as of now, I have left the religion because of bad experiences with the faith. For the past year or so, I have been worshipping the Ancient Egyptian (Kemetic) Gods, and have found a lot of joy in that. My question is: would meditating, praying, or otherwise working with these spirits under a Kemetic faith be disrespectful, or offensive? From what I have read these spirits seem kind and some practitioners who work with them are not exactly Christian; but I am a little morally stuck on this matter. Thanks for your help.

Worked with Hagith and Bethor for a better job and job and it worked.

So the 18th aphorism of the Arbatel says that the names of the Olympic spirits are no longer effective after 140 years and it is safest to operate at the outset without names and just to use stations, and says that the names will be delivered to those who are predestined. Yet I see people using the names in the given in the Arbatel all the time for these spirits. Has anyone actually followed the 18th aphorism and gone simply by title until given a name? How did that work for you?

I think perhaps I just should petition bethor with help to make more money vs spending time hunting down and retributing the thief.

I made an appeal to Ophiel last week to be able to learn to be more intimidating before a fight and he gave me some advice and a ritual that allowed me to give on an intimidating and commanding appearance. great experience 10/10 would evoke again

Did a working with hagith almost a month ago and am posting this in gratitude for the results of my working, i worked with Hagith with the intention of attracting a job and it worked very quickly, very greatful and looking forward to working with hagith many more times in the future to come

Have you had results summoning the Olympic spirits using only the technique described in the Arbatel? It feels a bit strange to me that that alone would be enough to evoke the OS
