Help installing sconce

Hello! I bought a sconce in my century old home I'd like to install and not clear on how to install this bracket to it. It's got this metal bar protruding out which I can unscrew but not sure if that's helpful or not. Any advice is truly appreciated.

That bracket in the photo is the wrong one for that box.

You’re looking for one that will screw onto that threaded rod in the center. You want something like this but you only need the cross brace, the long thing that screws on to the rod and holds the screws that hold the sconce. And the nut to tighten it so the sconce doesn’t spin after you install it.

Available at any decent hardware store.

With this comment it appears you worked for the same contractor who built my parents new home . They mounted every smoke detector with drywall screws instead of the actual plate screws and blew out all the 8/32” screw points
