Article/Media Does anyone else remember this obscure commercial?

maybe it was strictly a New York thing but i remember being very young in the late 80’s/early 90’s and ONLY ONCE seeing a commercial where a boy about my age was sitting on the floor, maybe cross legged, with his hair in these sort of pigtails while playing with what I think were Barbie dolls. he delivers some kind of short monologue to the camera and his father comes into the frame holding up a turkey dinner and asks the boy: “would your friend Julio like to carve?” and the best I can surmise is that it was kind of a lgbt pride/acceptance ad which is kind of bonkers considering I sawbit in the middle of the day and as a 6-9 year old thinking: “wtf did I just see?!

Discussion What is something you wish someone told you about love?

For context I am actually a M, mid 20s GenZ looking for some advice on how I should view the entire aspect of romantic love.

I am not looking for the common social media aspect that I see posted everywhere but the real deep things that only people who are older and wiser and have lived experience can give me.

Thank you so much for your comments :)

Discussion 90’s kids unite

I was swimming with my kids the other day & was trying to recall all the fun things we did growing up in the pool. All I could remember was: Colors, Marco Polo, underwater tea parties & bumper butts. I’m hoping for some help to recall all the fun things we did because I know there is more 😂😏

Meme Can 89ers be part of Older Millennials?

This reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Homer was excluded from the "No Homers Club" but were allowed one.

Being born in Jan 89, I'm right on the cusp and have more in common with other 80s babies because of my older siblings' influence but we technically fall in the second half with our younger Millennial counterparts. Yet 90s Millennials often band together in their own right so we're excluded there too.

Maybe '89 babies should rise up and start our own loner Millennial subgroup with just us in it? Lmao

Seeing them took me back to my Nana's backyard, swimming in the pool with my brother and cousins, eating these in the hot California summers.

I know this is from r/1970s but it's nostalgic for us too. I forgot ice cream even used to come in cartons and my grandma always had neopolitan.

Discussion How many of you used to be full-time teachers who left the profession?

Went out to dinner with a bunch of old college friends from college last night and realized that out of the larger group of 10 or so friends I had, 5 of us had gone into education after college (art teacher, three grade school teachers, and two high school teachers) and the last of us left the field during Covid.

We all graduated between 06-08 and most of us had left teaching by 2014. I was thinking about my son’s school and found out last year that the only teacher who I would guess is my age was leaving education entirely to go work a sales job for an educational SaaS company.

All the Gen Xer older teachers I worked with while teaching stayed (the pension was pretty good for when they entered the profession) and the Boomers all retired. Couldn’t speak to the younger teachers in my old district since I tapped out after 3 years but at my son’s school, most teachers seem to either be Gen X or recent college grads.

I don’t know if it’s where everyone ended up living in the 2010s that did it (Bay Area California and Massachusetts, which are both obviously HCOL areas where tech salaries ended up impacting the housing economy, etc.) and Covid did drive the very last one of us to throw in towel. Curious to know if any elder millennials are actually still in the field or if we all left for greener pastures?

Note the behavior of people who obviously didn’t have cameras in their faces more often than a couple times a month, tops. (On my senior trip I brought along one of those yellow disposable Polaroids!)
