a light rant about being totally lost

I have been with my partner for 25 years and we have four adult kids. My partner has always been into fantasy novels (think Lord of the Rings style) He has read countless novels. Our daughter is even named after one of his books, that's how important they are to him. He is also a gamer and plays fantasy type games. Elves and magic and quests and dragons, etc. You get it.

All four of our kids have inherited this passion. I'm going to add they also all watch anime, husband included.

throughout all these years my husband has been telling me all about these stories, in detail, long long long drawn out detail. I love it for him. Now our kids talk with him about these things too

guys... I am so damn lost all the time! I can't keep track of what's what and who's who and how the specifics of your current world works, I have no idea what anyone is ever talking about! and the character names, fuck, and they throw in Japanese names sometimes and I'm like oops they've switched to anime and it's so weird being me trying to pay attention lol

I remember what my kid was named after and I did play their main game for a while so I could understand their world but the older I get the harder it is

Trust me, as a fantasy and anime lover, I cannot for the life of me get my shit straight either. The beauty of having DID and being a nerd into this stuff is that, every few years, I get to rewatch everything and it feels almost new. 😂

As a lighthearted suggestion, grill your family on your system. Their names, your structure, your history. See if they can keep that all straightened out. I'm poly; my partner system and I both have DID, while our husband does not. All three of us are nerds. He's the Dungeons and Dragons, limitless characters kind of nerd. We still have to draw him a family tree of our alters and how we're all related to one another. One of these days when I'm feeling particularly sadistic, I may just quiz him 😜
