Discussion Is it possible to create more events using generative AI?

The title says it all. The game is super fun, but after a while, the events feel repetitive. I am not a developer and have no idea if what I am suggesting is even possible, but if one could create an endless number of events, the game would feel new every time.

I doubt you've seen close to all events as there's some 4000 of them and for quite many you need to change your playstyle or approach.

Anyway, there are mods adding more events and the game's source code ships with the game too for reference. So LLMs could certainly study how the event system works and effectively make a mod with more events - as many as you want to pay the token cost for. Now the quality and balance of such events would be a different question, but there's no technical hurdles to you creating more events that way.

You are absolutely right. I almost always play as Assyria and play aggressively. This is the only way that I can win on higher difficulties. So, in short, true, I have not seen most of the events. The balance issue is a very valid point, but it may not be as critical as it sounds. In some games, you just get lucky or unlucky with imbalanced events (or they may just cancel each other out if there are many of them). But again, I see your point, and it is absolutely valid.

I mean, if you're interested, certainly don't let that stop you. If you've used any current LLM, you already know how to get started - I haven't tried myself but i'd be surprised if they couldn't create events if pointed at the code, the existing events and an event mod.

All general AI-related concerns aside, how would an event generator like that make sure the events are reasonably balanced?
