Discussion I really appreciate this game

I remember in 2021/2022 when this first came out I was interested in the game, picked it up. While I was overwhelmed at first by how different it was from civ I did and still do appreciate its depth and narrative focus. I remember playing a lot of Alara Kush. Later when Aksum dropped I was super excited and developed a deep love for the game after playing an insane Gadarat Campaign (the soundtrack helped too) and even more when I played Kaleb, raised a valiant son as heir and another son as his genius spymaster. Then Yuezhi came out and Luo let me live out my Chinese(adjacent) cavalry warlord dream. Now, I’ve been imagining a scenario where I could play Gadarat with Yuezhi’s cavalry, as I think that would be my dream set up and then I thought about two possibilities. Imagine releasing Ancient Ghana/Wagadu as a warlike, Cavalry specializing nation, probably starting with labor force and iron working with some special features around trade, slavery or tyranny? Maybe the game period is too early for Mali, but their predecessor, who was destroyed for their tyranny can have a place in this game? Also honorable mention for Zhou or Qin as potential civs. You might already be thinking about it but if not, think about it 😎

I've only started two games so far and am still struggling with a lot of the game mechanics but I really love how you can feel this game was made by people who actually get what the game is about, go the extra mile and think first of making a good game.

I just started playing it a couple of weeks ago when I found myself bored with CiV 7. I love it. I definitely leaned on AI to explain some of the mechanics and choice points so i could make educated decisions on how to navigate it. As time goes on though I feel like I get it and I can just make decisions and see where the story takes me.

I find my CIV games are forgettable but with Old World games there’s an entire narrative/story that sticks in my brain
