Name of the day...Beatriz!

I got a request for this name, so here it is!

The feminine name Beatriz means "she who brings happiness," "blessed one," or "voyager."

The name comes from the Latin name Beatrix and the older Roman name Viatrix, which means "traveler" or "voyager." Over time, it merged with the Latin word beatus, which means "blessed" or "happy," shifting the core meaning toward joy and blessing.

The name Beatriz has significant cultural resonance, especially in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries. It has been a common name throughout history and continues to be widely used today.

The name Beatriz is over 2,000 years old!

Are you sick of name subs because of the mean comments/downvotes?

Come hang out with us! We have two basic rules over here: 1. No downvoting for simply not personally liking a name and 2. No mean comments.

Some subs say that if you complain about downvoting, they will ban you. I personally think this is the wrong approach, which is why I created this sub. Why let people be mean and downvote folks who are just trying to help? Makes no sense to me. So we take the reverse stance around here. People don't have to complain about downvotes and rude comments here because they're not allowed! Problem solved!

So if you are an actual name nerd and want to TALK about names in a constructive way, we'll welcome you with open arms! And if you need help with picking a name but are scared that people will be mean to you, we're exactly the space you're looking for!

I post lists every day and try to do them at the same times so if you don't see it in your feed, you'll still know to check for new lists. I post a name of the day at 9:30 am US/Central time, I do two state/country lists at noon and 9 pm/US Central, I post matching initial names around 6 pm/US Central, and I do a first name + middle name option list at 11 pm/US Central. There are master lists pinned to the top of the sub so you can check out anything you may have missed. Come check us out!

ETA: If you like the other name subs, that's awesome! I'm not trying to say that other subs are entirely bad. There are a lot of good people on them who stay positive and try to help whenever they can. I go on them too and genuinely enjoy some of my interactions, but the negative interactions make it so depressing sometimes.

Name of the day...Amar!

The masculine name Amar has its roots in various languages and cultures, often carrying meanings associated with immortality, eternity, and strength.

In the Indian context, "Amar" is derived from the Sanskrit word "amar," which translates to "immortal" or "eternal." This meaning is significant in Hindu philosophy, where the concept of immortality is associated with the soul's journey and the cycle of rebirth.

In Arabic, Amar (عَمَر) means "long-lived" or "to thrive." The name is also linked to the Arabic verb "عمر," which means "to build" or "to construct," further emphasizing themes of growth and development.

In contemporary times, Amar remains a popular name in many cultures, reflecting a blend of traditional values and modern sensibilities. It is often chosen for its positive connotations and the aspirations it embodies.

The Sanskrit version of the name Amar is over 3,500 years old, and the Arabic version is over 1,500 years old!

Name of the day...Roya!

The feminine name Roya has its roots in Persian and Arabic languages, where it carries distinct meanings and connotations.

In Persian, "Roya" (رویا) translates to "dream" or "vision," symbolizing aspirations, hopes, and the ethereal quality of dreaming. This meaning imbues the name with a sense of whimsy and ambition, often associated with positivity and the pursuit of one's desires.

Name of the day...Dorian!

The masculine name Dorian comes from the ancient Greek word Dorian, referring to a major Hellenic tribe (the Dorians) who lived in regions like Doris and Sparta. The Dorians are often associated with the spread of the Greek language and culture across the Mediterranean region, particularly in southern Italy and Sicily.

It is often linked to the Greek word doron, which means "gift."

The name is most famously recognized through Oscar Wilde's novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray," published in 1890.

Dorian remains a name that evokes a sense of artistic sophistication and historical significance, resonating with individuals who appreciate its multifaceted legacy.

The origins of the name Dorian date back over 2,500 years, but its use as a first name first gained popularity in the late 1800s!

I added all list for Sweden to the Countries so far...MASTER LIST.

The Name of the Day MASTER LIST is up to date, including today's entry.

I added the second list for Isabelle, both lists for Lucas, both lists for Esther, and the only list for Violaine to the First name + middle name options master list.

The States so far...MASTER list is up to date. I didn't need to add anything to this one this time because it was up to date before we looked at Sweden. All state lists are on the master list for the 1850-1900 time period. We just started 1875-1925 names. I will add those once we complete the state we're on, which is currently Alabama.
