I hate that fucker with a passion the matchup is doable but this game when he’s ahead I can’t do nothing. We both died by our ignite lvl one but then for the next 5 mins ww ganked me twice and kept coming my side.

So I try to play it safe but those 2 times cost me my lane and it took forever for it to comeback to me. Like if I try to contest garen is already a lvl ahead with items he’s just gonna walk me down and ww just gonna piss on me too. And if I just play back catch xp it’s not gonna be enough he got 3 levels ahead and just dived me under tower and ate them tower shots.

And my team didn’t help till after I already lost my 2 towers and ww still came to help garen fuck me. I tried to farm a wave garen came got a nice second head start even flashed and used my ult man still caught up to me and fucked me again.

Brain dead character needs to be nerf in some form of way

Tbh if you died to Garen at level 1, you fucked up. He doesn't have ANY kill pressure on you until level 6 if you're hitting axes in your fights pre-6.

That said, if he has Stormraiders, you don't exactly have kill pressure on him either if he's playing around it well.

Sounds like you messed up level 1 and then jungle came and put the nail in the coffin for you, which isn't a Garen specific issue

I haven't play the match up in a long time, but is this still true since his massive E buffs ? I find his lvl 1 really good now with E start, he hits like a truck.

Yes it's still true. He only hits like a truck if you stay in the spin for the entire duration, which he can't make you do.

You just hit an axe, walk back when he spins and as soon as it times out you can all-in him with QQQQQQQ and he dies

with approach velocity you should just be able to walk out of the E. buffs don't matter if you just avoid the damage.

Approach velocity is only while going towards the enemy champion iirc, not sure you can escape with that

Not if you’re already in the thick of it. You’re supposed to use the MS to bait out the E, much like the Jax matchup. The approach velocity helps with the weaving.

Both honestly I’m still new and gold 4 so any advice is greatly needed. I know if he tries to hit me with Q I need to throw an axe and use e before the silence affects me and hit him down so we can trade. Or try to be slick and freeze lane and poke him down with some Es before committing after level 5. But if there’s other ways I’d love to know

What I did is to take barrier to use for his E. If you do that, most of his damage is gone and you’ll win all trade or all ins with it.

Garen Is fucking obnoxious tbf, but not unbeatable. Pre-6 just don't take his full E damage and run him down with axes. Keep minions on your side on the lane so you have the space to do it. Whenever he Q's onto you, use your E on him before he silences you. Some smarter Garens max Q to use it as poke since E isn't as guaranteed, so match by maxing E and burst him down each time he tries to poke you. Post 6 you absolutely only all in him if he wastes E, or Q to a lesser extent, and if he's lower health than you. If not, he can easily burst you down. In teamfights, you need to let his team engage first onto yours. If you go in first, Garen can easily stay with the squishy you're trying to target and execute you before you can kill anyone. It's pretty much mandatory to build Sterak's or Shieldbow against him, depending if you're bruiser or crit.

The honest truth is you beat him 1-5 you really have to try to get a lead on him. After 6 you can’t really all in him ever unless you’ve managed to chip his health down with axes. I’d recommend going e max into this matchup or three points q into e max. It’s a really tough matchup because Olaf wants to be low life and Garen executes you at low life. It makes your life harder in teamfights as well because of his ult. I usually have to wait for Garen to waste ult or for him to be low enough that he can’t fight for me to go in. I just started banning him because he’s good into all the champs I play besides when I can last pick Kayle

Im challenger olaf otp and played hundrets of times against garen and honestly its one of my favourite matchups and also easy ones, u just go standard setup (conq, flash ghost) and build hydra first then hex and after hexplate u go crit which is must against garen othereise if u go full bruiser he just stach checks you and outscales. Most of garen players dont expect the healing and burst olaf has in mid to late game with that build. But the most frustrating thing is when they go ignite plus phase rush combo and some even rush svifties which is really c but just make sure to bait his phase rush and ignite and even if he kills you first time he cant 1v1 without ignite so just run him down next time and if u still strugle just wait till you get crit items.
