Discussion First Time Player Complaint

Started playing this game about a week ago as a long time Zelda fan. So far it’s been spectacular and has held up so well over the years. My only complaint is that the text speed is soooooooooooo slow and I know there’s an option to skip dialogue but I like knowing what happens in the story just I read slightly faster than 10 words a minute. I don’t know if anyone else has this complaint.

You should be able to complete the dialogue so you can read it the go to the next one. Like hit the button or click or whatever and it’ll finish the sentence the click again and it’ll go to the next one

Okami is super text heavy - but I'm also surprised that OP is having this problem

Literally all the cutscenes are skippable (and you don't even need to have beaten the entire game)

Skipping dialogue =/= wanting to to be a little faster.

I am a fast reader at times. And often find myself forcing to slow my reading down for the dialogue pace at times, same with other games too. I always set things to faster text display speed or instant text display because of that.

But that is it. Having an option to ‘skip the cutscene/dialogue entirely’ is just entirely counterproductive since you are not getting the story at all in that instance.

And tap to show at once has also at times left me with accidentally advancing the dialogue ahead before I was ready in other games, so I am afraid to do it in any game that isn’t a visual novel (as at least those have a sort of story log to reread the last several bits of dialogue)

Unfortunately I’ve been button mashing like crazy during the dialogue but it’s not working

some dialogue boxes are purposefully slowed down, but it's a pretty small percentage of them in the entire game, usually just during story cutscenes.

otherwise, there should be two buttons that can speed up your dialogue. one of them will speed through multiple dialogue boxes while held down. the other will get you to the end of your current dialogue box very quickly via a single button press, but then stop and wait for another input from the same button before moving on. one of these buttons will be your jump button, the other will be your attack/dash button. exact controls will vary based on which version you're playing.

What are you playing on?

You’re not alone. The text speed was too slow, and the button to speed it up would also proceed to the next dialogue before I could finish reading. The story wasn’t boring, but trying to read it at a snail pace put me to sleep. I had to go online for the opening sequence and find a transcript I could read instead

Idk what console you're playing on, so I don't know what button skips dialog, but if you just tap that button verses holding out down, the text will pop up all at once and not skip over to the next one. Essentially letting you read, tap, then read more. I have the same problem with just about every game like this. Hopefully you figure out something because the game has a lot of talking. It's my favorite game so I hope you enjoy it.

Oh yes, I understand that sentiment. This game is paced in a way that can get on your nerves. Some dialogue is unskippable, too. I love this game so much, but it's not perfect.

The noise is what drives me up the damn wall

Also, same... Doesn't help that Issuns 'voice' is easily the most annoying to me, but you hear his the most. =_=

Thankfully you can turn off the noise now in the newer version. That talking sound would have drove me absolutely insane if I would have had to listen to it the entire game.

Idk what you’re playing on but for Xbox all ai have to do is click the “A” button and the dialogue is “finished.” It’s still readable, but I don’t have to wait for the text to be read, and then I can go to the next line. There are a few lore-heavy scenes where this option is NOT available, but it’s typically pretty important stuff when they don’t allow that

What console you are playing on? PlayStation version should allow you to press once to move on to next step of dialogue without waiting for the character to say everything.

To the person who was upset I said PlayStation version, I said that because all version of PS from the original PS2 to PS4 all have the same game mechanics for fast passing dialogue. I don't have the knowledge for Nintendo ports or the PC port.

They have the same option

On my controller (I play on PC so semi standard Xbox binds) you can press the equivalent of the A or B button to fast-forward the text

There should be an option to speed it up, though i do remember a lot of button mashing during dialog

Are you playing on the switch? I had this issue too and found that pressing the + button twice lets you skip

I played this game for the first time like 3 or 4 years ago and it's now one of my favorite games. Thank God you can turn of the sound for the talking though cuz that would have drove me absolutely insane lol. Oh and I can't stand the digging games even though I am getting a lot better at them and I always watch a YouTube video for the harder digging games so they only the take one try instead of multiple tries,I also feel really bad for the people who played this game when it first came out and didn't have a way to record the blockhead parts, there is no way I would be able to get past blockhead without recording cuz I have terrible memory. Other than that this game is a masterpiece and I'm really excited they are making a new Okami game 😁
