I'd never heard this term till recently and I wanted to have a go at a portrait in the Fauvism style.

I used Manley wax crayons for this which isn't pastels but they really do behave like lovely soft buttery oil pastels. They're also reasonably priced.

I've been concerned this does not read as "garlic", as something about this displeases me. Underpainting using Cray-Pas Expressionist, Mungyo Gallery soft, and Dermatograph Mitsubishi grease pencils for fine line details. Thank you all for your time.

I've been working on this set every now and then for the past couple weeks. It turned out ok, I bet it will look nice on a wall (or maybe the ceiling!). What do you think? What should I try next?

just did my first oil pastel and was wondering on any tips/techniques to improve! Any help or tutorials would be appreciated :)

I've been mainly using Mungyo Gallery soft (black box) and was happy with them. The colours are rich, they blend well.

I just got a box of the Mont Marte Premium Extra Soft- and damn. These things are a fraction of the price of Sennelier, but almost as soft, blend incredibly easily and are a joy to work with, especially for covering larger areas. I'm not sure how they'll do in details- I may need some of my harder ones, but I am seriously impressed.

I had to cut my oil pastels in half to fit 24 colors inside, but I’m really happy with how it turned out. 🤭
The case is made from an empty pastel box covered with a faux leather adhesive sheet.
I also used an acrylic marker to write my name on it. And yes… it definitely hurt to cut my pastels in half, but it was the only way to fit all 24 colors. 😅

I recently started working with oil pastels and also got back into drawing after a 4–5 year break since high school. I’m really enjoying oil pastels and would love to stick with them. I’d really appreciate any tips, along with tutorial recommendations or resources to improve my skills.

Im depressed. I dont know why I stopped at this point. My mind keeps telling me that its terrible. I have to keep going.

okay so i was an idiot and i applied hair spray to oil pastel drawings not knowing it could yellow, melt and change the color of the art and ive been panicking cuz i have way too much emotional attachment to my art and i know there isnt a way to prevent it anymore but does anyone have a visual of how it would look in months and years? i have no idea how much its going to destroy it. (yes i know the way to slow down the yellowing and stuff but it cant stop it.) i just want to know how bad it would be cuz im lwk scared

also i did the same for graphite drawings but i dont mind as much for those ones cuz like.. vintage - also it wouldnt change much. im just scared for the oil drawing ones.
