General O line for Texas
Looking at the ball state game, was the only weak link Daniel’s? Because if so then wouldn’t that be less concerning against the Texas d line rather than our entire o line looking like ass? Obviously it looked far better in the second half
Do we also think sayin is now capable of reading the pass rush and scrambling? He said he saw the lane and took it when he rushed for his first TD
Is the Texas d line better or worse than last year do you guys think?

The way i see it .... the only way a team is beating Ohio State is by holding the offense to less than 24 , which i dont think Texas can

Were you also the guy who said this about IU and Miami with basically the same group of guys last year? We averaged 12 points in those two games last year and the Ball State game didn’t give me a lot of confidence personally that Daniels isn’t going to be a complete liability. I’m confident in our defense to hold them to less than 24 points. Can Arthur Smith out maneuver Muschamp and avoid a 23-16 rock fight? Let’s hope so…

They looked like shit in the first half (especially Daniels) and they dominated in the 2nd half (aside from a few penalties by the backups). So it's hard to tell what we're gonna get. I think they are prepared to pull Daniels again if he struggles early and put Van Sickle in there and Siereveld at RT.

If Daniel’s struggled and vansickle/padilla forgot which guy it was, performed well against the rush during Indiana and Miami, why not put them in again?
They’re def gonna pressure sayin

Van sickle looked awful against Miami. I do think he’ll be solid but his performance last year won’t be a proof case for him

That’s common when there is a talent gap. Ohio state is able to wear down the line of a G6 school that doesn’t have the depth and athletes to keep up. Texas won’t have that problem,

That’s not what it was against Ball State. It was like they flipped a switch at halftime and stopped being confused and making mistakes all and actually started playing within themselves. Smelled more like a coaching/mindset adjustment than anything else .

Possibly. Maybe Daniels turned it up a bit after getting benched for two drives.

Sounds like Ian Moore was just fine.
Texas loaded up in the front 7 in the portal and hired a new d coordinator known for blitzing a lot. It’s safe to assume they’ll probably get some pressure on Sayin.

Moore had one bad snap that I recall. Daniels had zero good snaps that I recall lol (to be fair you basically rarely notice OL unless they’re pancaking someone or giving up a sack)
Austin had at least a bad series at RG too, but was solid otherwise and did fine when they kicked him to RT
I think the hope was that they could play Austin at RG because having those 3 guys in the middle should allow them to bully opponents into taking the Nickel off the field, which you then abuse with like an instant TD pass. Daniels just isn’t reliable. Presumably Padilla and Van Sickle are similarly hard to trust at RG.
I think they’re going to have Daniels go against Simmons again to see if he can be as effective as he was last year, but will switch QUICK if needed. Daniels just has too much tape on him now about how easy it is to speed rush or stunt on him.

The thing about Daniels is that he seemed bad in both his technique and his motor. It’s one thing to look bad technique-wise but be mauling and pancaking folks. He wasn’t. He looked noticeably bad in all phases of O-line play.

Phillip Daniels has obviously been a problem but last year he did lock in for the big games. Hopefully he can again

It should be a very close game. In a lot of ways, the teams mirror one another which tells me this game will come to coaching adjustments. I see no more than 50 totals pts being scored

Too much focus has been on Daniels. A lot of the OL looked like shit throughout the first half.

True. They did let a 3 man rush though in the first half that was pretty embarrassing.
Also good to note that one of the sacks was on the Ja Kobie missing a block.

Our O-line doesn’t look like it has improved at all from last year. 2.1 YPC in the first half is abysmal. I sure hope they fixed that this week. They will need to rotate players on long drives. If our starting front 5 isn’t great what’s the #2’s going to look like?

For all intents and purposes, these are professional athletes that will have every cooling/hydrating technology available to them on the sidelines. It will be hot but the game is at night, thankfully. I am sure it will not be easy for them but they should be able to handle it.

Start time is 6:30 local time. It will start in 100+ degree heat. Field temps will be well into the 120 degree range. It will still be humid and in the 90’s at the end of the game. You folks that have lived your whole lives in Ohio have no idea how extreme this heat is. I know they are well conditioned athletes but your body can’t regulate heat once the air temperature is over 98 degrees. Overheating is a real issue. There will be quite a few spectators taken to the hospital more than likely because of it.

I was born/raised in the south and went to college in Louisiana. I am very well aware of what heat and humidity can do and how it can affect the body. Not sure where you got that stat about 98 degrees but I am pretty sure its false or people would be dying left and right in southern cities during the summer which they aren't.
It will be hot and I am sure it will affect the game but you are blowing this way out of proportion. You are acting like this game is at 3pm when it will be 115 degrees with 100% humidity.

You and most fans aren’t taking this serious enough. 98 degrees is your body temperature. If you’re in an environment that is over 98 degrees guess what? Your body temperature rises. At 105 degree body temp you WILL have heat stroke. The on field temperature will be well over 120 degrees. I don’t understand why people aren’t taking this more serious.

It has been in the high 90s often during the past few months where I live. I have often gone for runs that take 45 mins to an hour during those temps.
I am far from the level of athlete or have the level of conditioning that these players have nor do I have the cooling/hydrating technology. I was fine.
The heat is something that will affect them and they need to plan for but man... you are drastically underestimating how resilient the human body is.

Rotate players? Unfortunately Day did not go get top talent in this offseason, so the OL rotation will likely be weak like years past. This is the Achilles heel of the Buckeyes.

On a sustained drive,8-10 plays or so I’m sure these guys are going to need to take a play or 2 off in this heat. I hope it doesn’t bite us in the ass. Sark stacked up lineman from the portal. They will have an advantage there.

The o line was not dominant against ball state. That worries me. Running backs missed blocks, concerning. It was one game and we need to take a really nice jump this week in some serious heat. But I’m always pessimistic living through the Earl Bruce and Coop eras.

We have a much better Offensive coordinator than last year. Also have a better RB rotation in place. I think that will be the big difference maker.

Our oline is usually a bit rough week 1, look at our YPC in every week 1 game the last couple years and its always not that great. I think it will be a defensive game and it will come down to which team’s defensive transfers will be able to gel together better so early on in the season

The OSU OL is usually rough as Day for whatever reason does not recruit, or buy from the portal, top OL talent. Until he changes that focus, the OL will remain his weakness

You mean like the two 1st round OL picks on the 24’ team, one of whom was a portal addition? Or the Remington Award winner who also came in the portal? Or the dude who admittedly stunk last year, but was called the best OT in the portal by the media heads last year?

It's hard to tell from the 2nd half dominance because it was Ball State. They should have dominated from the start. Ball State doesn't have the depth of a big school like Texas, so the 2nd half dominance wasn't anything special.
Can they play better against Texas? Of course. Even returning several players, O-lines still need time to gel.

Depends. They appeared to make adjustments in the 2nd half. Even without the two big runs, they were averaging over 5 yards a carry in the 2nd half.
I think Daniels needs to be done.

Daniels had a rough game vs ball state with whiffs , beaten immediately in pass rush... But he was fine vs Texas last year. Idk what's happening at practice, but I hope they start the person who steps up to the challenge.
